Abe and Mary Todd Obama

H/T: WorldNetDaily

Doug Powers at WND hit my funny bone/nail on the head with this piece.

BHO continually compares himself, and seems to encourage this comparison, to Mr. Lincoln. You know! That Lincoln! The one we hold responsible for the The War of Northern Aggression!

Where are the real comparisons? Unless Abraham Lincoln had a wacky, anti-American pastor and once announced his candidacy for Illinois Congress in the home of William Quantrill and later denied knowing anything about him, I'm not seeing any serious similarities. (Links are in the original - Gene)

~~~
Given Obama and the media's insistence upon incessant Abraham Lincoln comparisons, I'm half expecting Obama to show up to his inauguration sporting a beard, wearing a stove pipe hat and delivering the soon to be famous "Leftysburg Address":
"Four community organizers and seven friends thrown under the bus ago, George Soros brought forth to these 58 states, a socialist nation, conceived in secret, and dedicated to the proposition that all the wealth should be spread around and nobody should be punished with a baby."
Ah yes. There is nothing new under the sun.
Or should I quote steal another one of Solomon's well know sayings?
Vanity! Vanity! All is vanity!
More gun shows = fewer murders
H/T: WorldNetDaily
Joseph Farah and WND lays it out for all to read.
I'll bet that's a headline you've never seen before.
You will probably never see it, again.
But it's the truth.
~~~

Criminals seek out victims who are not going to fight back or offer resistance, let alone shoot them.

Guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens means they are less likely to become victims.

Anyone who disagrees with this simple, straightforward logic should be required to post a sign on the outside of their home or office that says: "Gun-free zone." - (Emphasis Added - Gene)

So far, I have not seen even one private citizen invite criminals into their home with such a ridiculous sign. Instead, governments post them around schools!

~~~
You need to be armed with the facts – as well as your trusty old firearms.
~~~

Get ready to protect your constitutional rights across the board, because they are about to come under fire from the worst assault weapon ever devised, a real weapon of Mass Destruction and Mass Distortion – Big Government.

And his Name is BHO. His predecessors were "W", Sick Willy, George HW, etc. His mentors are Marx, Hitler (leader of the Nationalist Socialist Party) and Stalin.

The Episcopal Church Introduces "InsertWhateverGodYouChoose-Mas"

H/T: Tominthebox News Network (SATIRE!)

Just in case you didn't see it coming, here's the latest "news" from Princess Moonbeam and her TEo:

Despite the mixed reviews, Bishop Schori is excited about the new holiday, saying, "In order for this to be a truly happy time of year, we need to meet the needs of all people. It troubles me that only a few groups can claim this time of year, such as the Jews, Muslims, Africans, and Christians. In order to, like Paul, be all things to all people, we're going to let all people decide what to celebrate."

Taking Obama at his Word on Gun Rights

H/T: American Thinker

David Jeffers, with tongue jammed into his cheek, skewers the Light Worker for his gun control stance. Of course, we can believe Him!

All the above listed reasons for caution are easily swept away by simply listening to the President-elect. Mr. Obama believes in common-sense gun safety laws, and while his stance on gun control is unclear, who can argue with common sense?

Why should we start believing the Liar-In-Chief-Elect now?

The simple human decency of George Bush

H/T: American Thinker

Rick Moran exposes a side of George Bush that I had hoped to hear about some day. Looks like I got my Christmas present a bit early this year.

Bush has come in for a lot of criticism - much of it deserved - over the years. But the portrayal of him as an unfeeling, uncaring man when it came to the suffering of soldiers or citizens as a result of war or natural disaster was always purely political. Even his most vigorous supporters, however, could not have imagined the extent to which he gave of his time and emotional energy to ease the suffering of Americans who have given so much for America during his time in office.

Who Should Kill a Terrorist?

H/T: Police.com

Keith R. Lavery, Security Strategies Contributor, has some good things to say about stopping terrorists wherever they may be found. Considering his focus, his target audience and such, I can't disagree with him. However, I believe he misses one major component of the soultion.

Mr. Lavery ignores the contributions CCW / CHL holders have made to the solution. And while I'm at it, I do not forget or disregard the dis-armed population that has acted when confronted with evil.

Putting It All Together
So, who best to handle a terrorist cell? Depends on the type of cell and what stage of operations they are in. Basically, everyone plays a role. Those terrorists serving in a support (logistics) role who secure financing through illicit means, or intelligence, should be the focus of the police and private security. Operational cell members rapidly approaching their execution phase of an attack must meet preemptive neutralization by our armed forces who are not overly concerned with preserving the life of a terrorist for judicial prosecution.

I think he's absolutely correct. OTOH, where do the "victims" come in. Is it our part of the script to roll over and play dead for the terrorists while we wait for SWAT? Or can the sheeple grow teeth and protect themselves and their loved ones?

I think you know my answer!

Identification Is Mandatory

H/T: Officer.com

Frank Borelli, Editor-in-Chief at Officer.com blogged about police and CCW encounters of the shooting kind. In other words, how do you separate the good guys from the bad guys when they both have guns? A really good question for those of us who carry even occasionally.

So, what do we do? (Snip - Gene) Given recent history (specifically Mumbai) we HAVE to develop a means - that can be trained across the board - for identifying those who are legally armed and exercising a justified use of force in response to a terrorist incident.

I certainly don't want to be targeted by the uniformed responders, or other CCWers, during a situation. OTOH, I do not believe I could live with myself if I did not render aid when I could.

Share your ideas here. Go to Borelli's blog and share them with him. We want to know what might work. In fact, we're dying to know!

Tagged!

Matthew of Billy Ockham infamy blind sided "tagged" me this morning. No thanks to him (grumble, growl, snort, ....) I have to actually wake up and do something before noon. Growl, grumble, snort, . . .

As I understand it, the rules are (stolen from Matthew):

  1. Link to the person who tagged you. Check.
  2. Post the rules on your blog. Check.
  3. Write six random things about yourself. (See below)
  4. Tag six people at the end of your post and link to them. (See further below...)
  5. Let each person know they've been tagged and leave a comment on their blog.
  6. Let the tagger know when your entry is up.

Six Random Things About Me [Sarcasm Alert]:

  1. Jesus Christ changed my life forever in 1971 in a small East Texas town. BTW, I am forgiven, not perfect!
  2. I am an Aggie (former student, Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, US of A), Class of '70. (That's 1970 dimwit!)
  3. I am a second generation Aggie. Dad was Class of '30, Texas A&M College. Our children have chosen other paths, so far. Maybe there's hope for our grandchildren.
  4. My first ham radio license was earned in 1963.
  5. We have been married seventy-eight years. Thirty-eight for her and thirty-eight for me! ;>)
  6. And YES, as a matter of fact, I am an IOF!

Tag six people at the end of your post and link to them.
(I'm thinking about it ...) Actually, it is really a question of who do I know well enough to pester with this kind of time wasting mess! Evidently Matthew felt he knew me well enough to be comfortable messin' with my mind! hehe Or maybe, he felt I needed the boost in traffic. Eh?

Let each person know they've been tagged and leave a comment on their blog.
(Still thinking . . . .)

List of "Victims"

  1. Anglican Orthodox To the Core (12/20)
  2. TBD
  3. TBD
  4. TBD
  5. TBD
  6. TBD

Let the tagger know when your entry is up.

The War of America the Unready

H/T: Mudville Gazette

Here is a thought from an American I learned to respect, TR.

There is no more thoroughgoing international Mrs. Gummidge, and no more utterly useless and often utterly mischievous citizen, than the peace-at-any-price, universal-arbitration type of being, who is always complaining either about war or else about the cost of the armaments which act as the insurance against war. There is every reason why we should try to limit the cost of armaments, as these tend to grow excessive, but there is also every reason to remember that in the present stage of civilization a proper armament is the surest guarantee of peace - and is the only guarantee that war, if it does come, will not mean irreparable and overwhelming disaster. [Emphasis added - Gene]

It is a particulary sobering thought when combined with the results of the most recent national debacle election.

On Sheep, Wolves and Sheepdogs

H/T: Sipsey Street Irregulars

Mike Vanderboegh, author of "Absolved," wrote this article. Please read the entire article and consider your response to the challenge: Are you a sheep, sheepdog, or a wolf?

If you want to be a sheep, then you can be a sheep and that is okay, but you must understand the price you pay. When the wolf comes, you and your loved ones are going to die if there is not a sheepdog there to protect you. If you want to be a wolf, you can be one, but the sheepdogs are going to hunt you down and you will never have rest, safety, trust or love. But if you want to be a sheepdog and walk the warrior’s path, then you must make a conscious and moral decision every day to dedicate, equip and prepare yourself to thrive in that toxic, corrosive moment when the wolf comes knocking at the door.

~~~
It is denial that turns people into sheep. Sheep are psychologically destroyed by combat because their only defense is denial, which is counterproductive and destructive, resulting in fear, helplessness and horror when the wolf shows up.
Denial kills you twice. It kills you once, at your moment of truth when you are not physically prepared: You didn’t bring your gun; you didn’t train. Your only defense was wishful thinking. Hope is not a strategy. Denial kills you a second time because even if you do physically survive, you are psychologically shattered by fear, helplessness, horror and shame at your moment of truth.
A gun is worth 1,000 pictures
Doug Powers told it like it is. Sometimes, you just can't beat having a gun in the hand. It's like having a fly-swatter. Nothing else can quite do the job as well when the job is swattin' flies.
Of course, India is a Brady haven. The Brits in the colonial era just couldn't stand havin' the peasants armed. They might revolt or somethin' like that. The modern Indian elite took their cues from their former Brit masters.
Police Required to Protect Christians from Advocates of Tolerance and Diversity
H/T: Stand Firm
I must confess! I missed all of the news reports on this issue! Ref: Radical homosexuals plan day of 'intolerance'
Greg Griffith has this to say:
And I'll say it one more time (although it certainly won't be the last): I have yet to read a denunciation of this violence by any of our Worthy Opponents. Susan Russell? Elizabeth Kaeton? Mark Harris? Louie Crew? For that matter, Bishop Andrus? Bishop Bruno? Bishop Beisner? Bishop Mathes? Where are you? Where is your condemnation of the exact kind of violence against peaceful Christians that you condemn against gays? You prattle on about things that might happen to gays, because of what Christians say and write, yet when it actually happens to Christians, and at the hands of gays, you're strangely silent. Well, not strangely, I guess. That would imply that I expected you to do something else, that I expected you to act consistently, with honor and without hypocrisy.
Typical of the "other side", INMNSHO.
Mrs. Jefferts Schori's Response to Ft. Worth's Departure From TEC
H/T: Cotton Country Anglican
Spin, spin, spin, spin, spi . . . .
"The Episcopal Church grieves the departures of a number of persons from the
Diocese of Fort Worth." - Jefferts Schori/TEo
Let's see here. About 80% of the clergy and about 80% of the laity of the TEo Diocese of Ft. Worth (Texas) voted to leave her non-Christian organization for a Christian group operating out of South America. And she describes this as "a number of persons."
What planet does she live on?
Does she not recognize the death rattle of her own organization?
Groups like AMiA, the Anglican Southern Cone (that's who Ft. Worth has affiliated with) and others are growing. They're growing from the bleed-out of TEo in addition to their own evangelistic efforts among the un-churched.
A random, irrelevant thought: "Sheep" stealing is seldom very pretty and generally held to be under-handed. On the other hand, when the "sheep" have escaped from the incompetent, or false, shepherd, then they are to be rescued. The sheep of TEo need rescuing.
Why does this not surprise me?
The Obama campaign says its candidate is a victim of “smears” — and has even created a Web site to fight such attacks.
Hard times have some flirting with survivalism
H/T: World Net Daily
I was never much for the flirting game. I guess I lack the sophistication to do it right and not come off too heavy. Besides, SWMBO! might take exception to me flirting with anyone other than herself. Totally UNHEALTHY. For me. ;>)
However, when the SHTF, flirting is least of my worries.
“Anytime we become vulnerable, our risk of a terrorist attacks increases.” - Sharon Parker
Take a look at:
  • Our economy,
  • We're fighting two wars simultaneously (and the leftist/socialist screamers tell us we must not fight those fighting against us!),
  • At least one of our presidential candidates is an out-and-out socialist
  • and . . . . and . . . .
Now don't go and get me wrong, here. Our God is an awesome God and He is still in control. OF everything.
He does tell us to be prepared! (Scripture list from GunShowOnTheNet.com)
  • Luke 11:21
  • Luke 22:36
  • Luke 12:39
  • Acts 5:29
  • Acts 5:39
  • 2 Corinthians 10:4
  • Joel 3:9-10
  • And much, much more!
To me, the question is not about flirting with preparedness, it is all about embracing it and going all out. We all have different capabilities and needs and fears. We must adapt our preparations to those requirements and limitations.
Barack Obama is a Communist?
H/T: Orthodox to the Core
Erik is a good friend of ours and we respect his views - theologically and politically. Otherwise, he couldn't put up with ME! ;>) He also has the ability to present hard comments in a much nicer way than I can. I tend to use profanity when attempting profundity. hehe Especially when the subject is politics and leftists.
Barack Obama is a Communist
Why such a "in-your-face" title? Well, first of all, it's true. Think about it, my friends. The talk about "Redistribution of wealth" reminds me of a famous (or infamous; depending on your point of view) book that was written quite a while back. I'm leaving a link, and I'll let your brain do the assumptions: . . .
Let's face it, BHO has associated with leftists all of his political life, if not all of his natural life! He is associating with leftists now - Wright and Pflegler and his campaign staff and . . . . Does anybody else remember the flap earlier when TV news revealed his campaign staff in Houston worked under a Che Guevara banner!
Why should he change his stripes once he is elected? His stated goals and intentions indicate he has no plans on doing anything but continuing the socialist/communist push he has fostered all along.
He appears to be black and moderate but his actions are socialist! He doesn't care about black, or whites. He cares about POWER. Not "power to the people" but the accumulation of power to himself.
BHO is for murdering babies (the "unborn") and for murdering the living - via "gun control". "Gun Control" is simply the means of denying the lawful, legal, citizens the means of protecting themselves from the unlawful, illegal, population that refuses to be "controlled."
Now, who does that leave alive for Obama to control? Only the timid sheep that must depend on him for their handouts and their security!
If you intend to vote for BHO, go ahead and start practicing!
Baaah! Baa-aah!
Muslim/Episcopal Priest Given Ultimatum
H/T: Stand Firm In Faith
I'm still trying to figure out why "Rev" Ann is still alive and walking on this earth. After all, the foundational text of her acquired second religion seems to demand "death to the infidel". Either she is "infidel" or not. Her "Christian leaders" haven't seemed to care about her apostasy, so maybe her Muslim "leaders don't either. Or maybe she is a convenient fool for both sides. What do you think?
There are moments these days when the Rev. Ann Holmes Redding sits outside a church or a Muslim gathering, wondering if she will be welcome at either.
OTOH, I applaud her canonical leader, Bishop Geralyn Wolf of Rhode Island, for having the intestinal fortitude to stand up and call a spade, well, uh . . ., a spade. +Wolf has done the proper and correct thing. She has called out "Rev" Ann and defended the Christian faith as both Redding and +Wolf swore to do.
BTW, Redding is located in Washington state under a bishop that apparently is OK with her dual "profession of faith".
Technology as Panacea
H/T: Keep And Bear Arms
For all you "smart gun" fans out there:
The concept is that through technology – most often unspecified and perhaps even non-existent technology, when the person advocating it has some measure of government power – we can take a deadly weapon like a handgun and render it somehow "safer."
~~~

The truth is that the "smart gun" concept is remarkably stupid. It fails both in its technological aspects and in its practical aspects.

~~~
The introduction of unproven technology (particularly electronic technology) to a firearm introduces a level of risk that is simply unacceptable. Worse than that, it is unconscionable.
~~~

Self-defense is predicated on the idea that it is sometimes necessary to use violent physical force in order to preserve your life and the lives of your family.

Now for a side-note. The use of modern electronics, in the event of an nuclear "exchange", renders all such "smart" weapons totally and permanently STUPID. Inoperative, dead, kaput! Capiche?

A small, informal, history lesson is called for, I believe.

In the late '40 and '50s, when we and the Russians were starting to test nuclear "devices". We noticed the detonation of the device caused an extremely intense electro-magnetic pulse (EMP). That pulse scrambled all radio and electronic equipment during the time of its existence. Our technology was using vacuum tubes requiring relatively high voltage power sources. Each electronic device a high level of electrical insulation built into it due to the nature of the beast.

Move forward in time. Today. Our commercial, and consumer, electronics are no longer using vacuum tubes, except in older style monitors and TVs. In fact, they use very few discrete components such as transistors and resistors, etc. Almost everything electronic, today, uses very densely packed chips to provide the speed and space saving functionality we demand.

What does "very densely packed chips" mean to us in this context? My iPAQ, your pocket PC, your iPhone are all susceptible to a modern EMP attack. EMP can be created by very large electrical surges of just the right kind. Nuclear devices can be "tuned" to enhance their EMP output and lessen there radiation output - somewhat. An EMP attack is possible and we are basically unprepared for such.

Details, details, details: It means the power sources used for these gadgets work on very low voltages and currents, compared to the vacuum tube days. It means that electrical energy pulses can, and do, zap our gadgets into scrap. Now, from working on the manufacturing floor of a couple of electronic instrument manufacturers, and from my experience performing factory-acceptance testing for other employers, I have seen the devices we bought survive 50,000 volt surges with out fail. That was pretty much standard in the commercial equipment market. I have no idea if there is an equivalent in the consumer equipment market. If there is, I suspect it may be a lower threshold. I do not know what the military's standards are. I strongly suspect they are much higher. In addition, the military, and a few civilian agencies, can demand, and get, EMP hardened devices - for an extra charge, of course.

Back to the subject - "smart guns." Do you want to rely on your "smart gun" after an EMP attack, whether nuclear or conventional? Do you want to risk needing your "smart" gun to defend the lives of your loved ones? I definitely do not.

Consider how long it has taken for Microsoft to "perfect" Windows? Can we wait that long? Much of modern manufacturing uses initial sales to the public for their beta testing. Sometimes, I suspect, they use us for alpha testing. Yes, we are considered guinea pigs.

Do not allow the anti-freedom elite to deny you your rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. If you can not defend yourself, you can not live. If you can not live, who needs liberty of happiness?

Mrs. Schori is soon to lead a "Day of Repentance" for the Episcopal Church's unenviable record on the issue of slavery over 150 years ago.

I really got off to Dr. Mabuse's phrase "Reverend Eliazer Kretin, Episcopal priest of the Church of the Blasted Fig-Tree, Nag's Ass, Missouri."

Can I hear an "Amen, brother"?

"Baking Cakes to the Queen of Heaven: God, Goddesses, . . . "

H/T: VirtueOnLine

Scroll down the page about two thirds of the way. Look for the first sentence quoted below. No wonder the Episcopalian priesthood is so screwed up!

My thoughts are on the absurdity of the first speaker's topic.

Coming to a seminary near you. At EPISCOPAL DIVINITY SCHOOL in Cambridge, Mass two lectures will be delivered, . . .

~~~
Her talk is titled "Baking Cakes to the Queen of Heaven: God, Goddesses, [ . . . ] and Growing Up Black and Female in America."
That the speaker is identified as "an ordained elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church and a Hebrew Bible scholar" is just plain sickening. How can the AME Church tolerate such a nutcase?
Church leader pushes for gay acceptance
H/T: WorldNetDaily
TEo should be ashamed of this guy. I do not care whether he is "gay" or not "gay" or whatever. He is not functioning as a priest of the God he swore to serve.
"We are all being distracted from all these other issues, like the environment, by the question of whether people can love each other," he said. "It's daft."
At least he told the truth - partially. This is the truthful part of the quote above: "We are all being distracted from all these other issues, like . . . "
Before you start calling me a bigot and racist and homo-phobe, get something straight. My beef with this guy is not his stance on "gayness" but his stance on what is important. HE claims to be a servant of the Most High God. Why isn't he presenting the Good News that changes people's lives? Instead, he presents to the world the "news" that affirms what God has called sin.
Now you may understand why about 85-90% of our congregation left the TEo earlier this year. The TEo (nationally, publicly, privately, . . . ) is no longer Christian in its mission or activities.
There are still a few God-fearing priests and parishioners amongst the pagans but their numbers dwindle every month. No longer is it just individuals leaving the TEo, but large chunks of parishes and now even whole dioceses have left and realigned with traditional Anglican provinces outside of the U.S. and Canada.
'Jesus was a Palestinian,' claims U.S. history text
H/T: WorldNetDaily
Thirty years ago we were fortunate to put our first child into private Christian schooling. At least until we ran out of schools and money. The money hadn't changed much by the time our Number Two needed schooling so he went into public "education" where he didn't do so well. Too many illnesses and distractions in his large primary-age classes. Then we home-schooled him.
We thought the problems with text books, curriculum in general, and poor teaching standards of our neighborhood was bad enough. Now we can read THIS story. Click on the title above for all the juicy details. If you do not have children in school, send it to somebody that does.
The authors found textbooks that stated or suggested:
  • Jesus was a "Palestinian," not a Jew.
  • The Arab nations never attacked Israel. Arab-Israeli wars “just broke out,” or Israel started them
  • Arabs nations want peace, but Israel does not
  • Israel expelled all Palestinian refugeesCommentary
What to Expect
H/T: Surviving in Argentian
I just sent this out in an email to several personal friends who I thought might profit from considering FerFal's observations & experiences in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
May I suggest ya'll take a GOOD look at these this blog post by FerFal at What to Expect. His opinions are based on HIS experiences in Buenas Aires, Argentina. They seem have already gone through what we are beginning to experience. You might want to learn from him NOW.
WHY do I bother you with all of this? First of all, and lastly!, I care for you. I could be wrong. Mr. FerFal could be wrong. His observations on conditions in Argentina reflect what I'm reading elsewhere. His opinions, based on his experience, may be worth listening to and adapted to OUR individual situations.
Use, or do not use, according to your own consideration of your situation.
"Life" Got In The Way
Blogging has been sparse for most of September. I'm just getting around to 'splaining myself today.
"Life" got in the way.
Of blogging.
First, there was an uninvited vistor named Ike. He swept through just to our east and really screwed life up for our neighbors in eastern Harris County, and elsewhere.
Then, there was our youngest. He decided, many moons ago, to get hitched on the same weekend Ike invited himself to dinner. Bah! Humbug!
What are Little Girls Made of?
H/T: David Codrea's The War on Guns
I couldn't agree with Mr. Garrison more. We did almost exactly the same things with both of our two "rugrats." Not only did they survive, we survived and the neighbors never knew what we did. You see, we taught our kids to respect both the instrument and themselves.
My little girl is growing up. That very special change is coming in her life. She is about to blossom into a new stage of maturity. As a father, I have to face facts.
She's 5 now; it's time to buy her first gun.
SWMBO! and I chose ages 8-10 for our two children according to their personalities, demonstrations of responsibility and interests. OTOH, we did not have to make the decision of pink or blue for the stock. No options.
You see, the chosen instrument was handed down to me from one of my maternal uncles when *I* was about twelve years old. See "The .22 at 150"Guns & Kids" Part I & Part II.
Still batting 1.000
H/T: The Krallspace
Dr. Mabuse sounds the warning once again. She resides in Canada where they evidently do not allow their subjects any freedoms other than those permitted by the Canadian dictatorship government.
Read it.
Weep for Canada.
Weep for the U.S.!
I hope you are watching this, America. Remember what sort of police state you are entering when you come up here for vacations, or to attend the Olympics.
You scare people, you really do...
This last Saturday found my Dad and me at the Dallas Market Hall gun show. It was possibly the largest show I have ever seen there. There was lots of good stuff although prices seem to have risen since the last show I attended. The one thing that there was a lot of was person to person transactions. That’s what I want to talk about.
There is a growing trend among politicians and the media who have bought into the idea that there is this mysterious “gun show loophole” that must be illegal, immoral and dangerous just because of the name, right? This term is misleading and strives to make a perfectly legal and normal practice sound shady and wrong.
As I walked the long trek from my car to the front door I saw several folks engaging in open, above board transactions to buy, sell or trade firearms. This is not illegal. You can do it any where, not just a gun show. There just happens to be more of them at gun shows because that is where lots of people with guns to sell or trade congregate. We could all get together in a town square and sell each other guns and there would be nothing illegal about it. Why all the fuss then?
As I walked, I looked at the massive number of cars that were clogging the parking lot. I know for a fact that these cars kill far more people every year than guns do. Yet no one is calling for a ban on person to person car sales. There is no movement to ban high capacity vehicles (buses) or “assault cars” favored by criminals to carry out their nefarious crimes (’87 chevapontacadibuicks).
Why then is there such a fear of person to person firearms sales. I think it is because it SCARES some people. You, yes I mean you reading this right now. You scare the pants off of some folks with your guns and your independent attitude. How is the government going to take care of us all if you go and take care of yourself? It’s just not fair.
So the next time I hear someone talking about the importance of closing the “gun show loophole” I’m going to give them a great big Teddy Roosevelt smile with lots of teeth and a crazy glint in my eye and ask “Hey, you wanna buy a gun?”
Well said.
Suprynowicz: An America That Could Elect Sarah Palin Might Still Save Itself
H/T: WRSA
Vin Suprynowicz is quite outspoken as a voice of Libertarian reason. Whether you like his other views or not, try this article out to see how it "fits."
Why the desperation?
Because Vice President Sarah Palin would mean Americans could actually end up electing a woman president without tapping a manipulative, soulless, stay-married-just-to-stay-in-power socialist.
BTW, I can't pronounce his name, either!
Xavier has done an excellent job describing how to introduce the unitiated to shooting. I've followed pretty much the same method, with different tools, myself.
In fact, I'll match his side-bar comment. I will extend an open invitation to anyone who hasn't shot a firearm before. I'm in the North Houston (Texas, of course!) vicinity. Contact me to discuss details. We'll each bear our respective share of the range fees, typically less than $20. I'd like offer to cover those, but "Momma (and the budget) don't allow!" ;>) TANSTAAFL Eye and ear protection are available from me and/or the range.
Fingerspitzengefuhl
H/T: Stand Firm In Faith
As you all too well know, surfing the web can lead you to many unexpected destinations. That's what happened here. I received an email concerning breaking news from my favorite Anglican news/views web site, Stand Firm. The email pointed to an article concerning tactics being used by the "opposition" in the Fort Worth Diocese of the TEo. That article referred to something I had only seen referred to in terms of military tactics or inter-personal relations (self defense)!
Hmmmm??!!!!
I happen to know Stand Firm is not known for their militaristic views, though some of their primary commentators have leaked reasonable-sounding self defense thoughts. In fact, SF is known for its gracious rebuttal of nonsense, idiocy and even heresy in the Anglican Communion, especially as evidenced in the TEo and Canadian Anglican church.
Read the SF article and the OODA Loop article. They're both worth your time.
BTW, you'll have to read the OODA Loop article to understand Fingerspitzengefuhl. ;>)
Mouse Guns, Anyone?
H/T: Officer.com
Steve Denney's Mouse Guns, Anyone? poses several ideas that demand consideration from the lawful concealed carry citizen.
Friends don't let friends carry mouse guns!
At the same site, Frank Borelli, Editor-in-Chief, editorializes with Acceptable Calibers. I recommend both sets of comments to you.
As for my two cents worth, (You just knew that was coming! Didn't you?) I go with the basic idea of carrying/concealing whatever you shoot best with in the largest caliber (reasonably) that you can handle reliably. In my case, it is a S&W K-frame with a 4" barrel. It's a bit large for easy concealment, but do-able. My normal out-on-the-street carry weapon is a .380 ACP hi-cap with a spare mag. For "slumming" around at home, and minimal attire, I carry a single stack .32 ACP. So much for "Friends don't let friends carry mouse guns!"
Anglican Communion Contemplating Infant Baptism-Sacrifice
H/T: TBNN
OK, I admit this may not be for the squemish, or those challenged by dark humor. TBNN doesn't claim to be a "news" outlet, but sometimes they hit just too close to home! ;>)
In an exclusive interview with TBNN, Archbishop Rowan Williams said, "We must broaden our horizons beyond where we have been. If we do not, we will simply cease to exist as the Anglican Church. That said, at our latest Lambeth Conference we finally decided that we should do away with the bible as our source of wisdom and instruction. It is far too limiting in what it calls for. I think this move will allow us to be much more creative in our worship services."
Palin For VP
Today Sen. McCain announced Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin as his choice for VP in the upcoming election. Prior to the announcement, I was really concerned about his choice.
You see, there is no way I can support BHO, The Anointed One, much less Joe Biden. Neither one of them understands America or her foundations. How can they govern that they intend to destroy? Just for starters, neither one has the support of orthodox Christians. Biden is sideways with his Roman Catholic leadership over abortion & the Big O is in the same boat with the rest of us.
INMNSHO McCain is not much better. I believe he is much better prepared to lead our nation than the Obama-nator & Biden. He has leadership experience that Obama just can not approach. But, McCain does not appear to be much a friend to liberty-minded people.
Early on, Bobby Jindal, Governor of Louisiana, was discussed as a potential running mate for McCain. Race and youth were on his side, in my opinion. Like Palin, Jindal appears to be Christian and pro-life. I am ignorant concerning most of his pro-liberty & gun-related views.
However, Palin's selection pulls a committed pro-life, pro-freedom leader into the election. Palin's courage to stand up for the unborn was demonstrated quite personally when she chose to bear full-term her Downs Syndrome infant. THAT had to be a tough decision. Personally.
I find it refreshing to have her as part of the choice this November.
SHARING THE PIE - NOT WHAT OUR COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED ON
H/T: Home On The Range
Brigid has much to say about BHO and his "sharing the pie" socialism. Just whose pie is he going to share?
The American political system was not based on "sharing the pie". It was based on a moral principal that defined what made America great; on the principal of man's inalienable right to his own life - meaning, the principal that man has the right to exist for his own sake. Not sacrificing himself or his or her family to others nor sacrificing others to himself. Social interactions are not done by handouts but by trading, men dealing with others as traders, by voluntary choices to mutual benefit.
~~~

What this "change" appears to me to be is a social system based on the "nanny state", an altruist society, with it's code of self sacrifice, rather than the building of individual wealth, the antithesis of capitalism. It is socialism, which, in all it's mutated forms, fascism, Nazism, Communism, treats us as a sacrificial animal to be plundered for the benefit of the group, the tribe, the state.

Read it all for yourself.

Culture Wars : What Islam Isn't

H/T: Virtue OnLine

If Dr. Peter Hammond's conclusions are valid, then we all need to rethink our approach to this particular "religion." Here's a sample:

Islam is not a religion nor is it a cult. It is a complete system.Islam has religious, legal, political, economic and military components. The religious component is a beard for all the other components.

Read it all. Read it carefully. If facts disturb you (courtesy of the US CIA) then don't bother reading it at all.

2-party system: No choice but evil

Alan Keyes, a commentator for World Net Daily, has got it in my opinion.

I'll be the first to admit that this piece is not an easy read. But it is worth reading!

In our case, the premises of aristocratic despotism . . . are replacing those of democratic liberty . . .

~~~
Of all the issues confronting our country today, the assertion of so-called "abortion rights" most clearly epitomizes the nation's departure from moral principle.
~~~

The family thus exemplifies the natural first principle of just government.

~~~
Freed from the natural sense of obligation, the manifestations of human power may take the path of least resistance, the path that leads to the subjection of those whose weakness marks them for domination.
~~~

Because the contemporary debate over the institution of marriage takes place in the context of the push forcibly to legitimize homosexual behavior, the more fundamental issue of natural right that is at stake is never explicitly addressed. Is the paradigm of natural right represented by the procreational family still the basis for the American understanding of just government? Does nature have any authority in establishing the obligations human beings have toward one another, or is society the incidental result of the interplay of human choice and relative power? The advocates of homosexual marriage offer a concept of family that is based on human choice, without reference to any natural obligation. But once the element of natural obligation has been discarded, what limits the power of choice when confronted with the demands of those who have no power?

~~~
. . . the notion that accident establishes right leads to chaos; that conflict establishes right leads to perpetual war; that greater power establishes right leads to perpetual tyranny.
~~~

Once the ideologies of dehumanizing science (e.g., the dogma of evolution) and unfettered human will have extinguished this belief from their consciousness, the democratic age will end.

Please read it carefully and completely.

The Mississippi Squirrel Revival

H/T: Xavier Thoughts

Xavier has performed a great favor for this not-so-humble reader of his blog!

When I first heard this song, I was driving a company car from Houston to Houma (southern Louisiana) where the roads are narrow two-laners following the bayou from town to town. Keep in mind that bayou thing. It's important.

I had tuned around for a local station that played contemporary (early '80s) Christian or even classic country and settled on something on the AM band that was strong and not too noisy.

I found the station during the first third, or so, of this song and wasn't really aware of the artist, the title or even the genre of the station. However, I was aware of the twisting road and bayou and the remainder of my environment. In other words, when the artist got to the really good part of the song I was totally unprepared for its impact.

At the time, I had been a Christian about ten years or so and was part of the charismatic "movement" that had revitalized our Episcopalian congregation, Church of the Redeemer in Houston. I thought I knew all about the gifts, and manifestations, of the Holy Spirit but this song introduced me to an entirely new form of "worship."

The "holy" gift of laughter entered me with such power and force that I began having trouble steering the car between the white lines. Never mind the yellow line in the middle! Remember the bayou? If I missed the white line, the bayou was next!

Anyone behind me, fortunately there was no on-coming traffic, would have thought I had that crazed squirrel in my car running laps around my shorts!

Enjoy that vision, if you will, and definitely enjoy this song!

It doesn't Want to be Agreed with, it wants to be obeyed

This just in.

By Pony Express email from our correspondent in the East - BobL.

Pat Condell, from the UK, has a distinctly funny, sarcastic and very funny view of Islamofacism. A professed atheist, he definitely "gets" it.

At 03:09 into the 6 minute video, Condell lays it out on the table for all to see:

Radical Islam has seen us for what we are, a soft touch. It sees that political correctness is like a drug that we just can't stop injecting even though we know it's going to kill us. And they're taking full advantage of that, turning our sense of fairness against us, and making us despise ourselves for one of our best qualities. And any concession will be seen as a sign of weakness to be exploited further, because there is no dialogue with radical Islam. It doesn't want to be agreed with. It wants to be obeyed. (Emphasis added - Gene)

He occasionally uses "rough" language for effect.

Now, why am I down on Islam today? No particular reason other than Condell's remarks parallel what I've been thinking concerning the so-called "gay" controversy going on in our society. Especially the US Episcopal and world-wide Anglican churches and the rest of the liberal/progressive/socialist juggernaut.

With equal authority and accuracy, we can say "There is no dialogue with radical liberalism. It doesn't want to be agreed with. It wants to be obeyed." It's the "Do as I say, not as I do" mindset that we all rejected as children come back to haunt us in our "mature" years.

Any time we see the limousine liberals preaching to their choir and expecting us roll over, proposing/forcing their brand of utopia on the masses while they continue to live in their accustomed luxury, we know that we're being treated as mushrooms. You know, we're fed BS and kept in the dark.

Let's wake up folks, it's not about gun-control, "gay" rights, MDGs or whatever else is the cause for today.

It is all about control! Pure and simple, control the masses for the benefit of the self-selected "elite."

God Bless Ya'll !
