It doesn't Want to be Agreed with, it wants to be obeyed

This just in.

By Pony Express email from our correspondent in the East - BobL.

Pat Condell, from the UK, has a distinctly funny, sarcastic and very funny view of Islamofacism. A professed atheist, he definitely "gets" it.

At 03:09 into the 6 minute video, Condell lays it out on the table for all to see:

Radical Islam has seen us for what we are, a soft touch. It sees that political correctness is like a drug that we just can't stop injecting even though we know it's going to kill us. And they're taking full advantage of that, turning our sense of fairness against us, and making us despise ourselves for one of our best qualities. And any concession will be seen as a sign of weakness to be exploited further, because there is no dialogue with radical Islam. It doesn't want to be agreed with. It wants to be obeyed. (Emphasis added - Gene)

He occasionally uses "rough" language for effect.

Now, why am I down on Islam today? No particular reason other than Condell's remarks parallel what I've been thinking concerning the so-called "gay" controversy going on in our society. Especially the US Episcopal and world-wide Anglican churches and the rest of the liberal/progressive/socialist juggernaut.

With equal authority and accuracy, we can say "There is no dialogue with radical liberalism. It doesn't want to be agreed with. It wants to be obeyed." It's the "Do as I say, not as I do" mindset that we all rejected as children come back to haunt us in our "mature" years.

Any time we see the limousine liberals preaching to their choir and expecting us roll over, proposing/forcing their brand of utopia on the masses while they continue to live in their accustomed luxury, we know that we're being treated as mushrooms. You know, we're fed BS and kept in the dark.

Let's wake up folks, it's not about gun-control, "gay" rights, MDGs or whatever else is the cause for today.

It is all about control! Pure and simple, control the masses for the benefit of the self-selected "elite."

Words Mean Only What I Say They Mean

That's my title for Hal Lindey's commentary in World Net Daily today. Yes, his title was "The most 'tolerant' city in America?".

But he doesn't stop with exposing San Fransisco's vaunted "tolerance." He goes on to expose the "tolerance" of BHO and his fellow lefties, socialists and out-and-out communist friends. They're so tolerant - until you oppose them.

I used to think I had at least a reasonable command of the English language. It is, after all, my native (and, in the practical, conversational sense, only tongue), which puts me firmly among the unilingual ignoramuses Barack Obama wants to stamp out (once he's dealt with the God-loving, gun-toting xenophobes out in backwoods Middle America.)

While he's at it, Hal reminds us that San Fran is "tolreant" of everybody if they're not

If you were a heterosexual pro-family, pro-life Catholic citizen of San Francisco and heard your most bedrock beliefs condemned as: "insulting to all San Franciscans," "hateful," "defamatory," "insensitive" and "ignorant," how protected would you feel your civil rights were in the most "tolerant and progressive" city in America?

This round of sanity was brought to you by your little ol' lovable God-loving, gun-toting non-xenophobe out in backwoods urban Middle Main Stream America.

Racist Democrats: Then and now

Mellanie Morgan at World Net Daily skewers the Democratic Party rather convincingly. Read her comentary and check her history. See if she isn't "right on."

The mainstream media and Democrats have done a good job of whitewashing the horrific history of racism that continues even today. They want to point to GOP as the Grand Old Polluters of race instead of looking inward, where the poison is roiling.

~~~
We all know that to be true. You can bet that no Republican would talk about castrating Obama – unless he himself wanted to become a political eunuch. That act is so base and disturbing at every level that I cannot believe the politicos or observers have not linked the symbolism of castration and Southern racism.
I take that back. I can believe it.
~~~

They (the MSM) don't want to report the dirty little secret: Their chosen party, the Democratic Party, was founded on racist thought.

Archbishop of Canterbury: 'Christian doctrine is offensive to Muslims'

H/T: WorldNetDaily

According to the Anglican Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams:

Christian doctrine is offensive to Muslims, the Archbishop of Canterbury said yesterday.

I should certainly hope so! And it IS offensive to everyone who denies the Three-In-One God of Heaven. Otherwise, why would anyone bother arguing, much less dieing, for the cause of Christ?

Dr Rowan Williams also criticised Christianity's history for its violence, its use of harsh punishments and its betrayal of its peaceful principles.

Of course there have been excesses - on all sides. Humans are sinners. That includes Christians, too. Or hasn't ++Rowan noticed?

Yeah, those mean ol' ancient churchmen. We're so evolved nowadays we can't even defend the truth of our faith any more.

I'm not so sure ++Rowan is entirely right about "peaceful" principles, either. What about the passages that say Jesus' cause will set brother against brother and such?

Appeasing terrorists and murderers, even of the so-called "religion of peace submission", just isn't good policy at all. When will the hairy lefty of Canterbury figure out he's redundant and mostly ignored. His political soul-mate, the Hitler-appeaser Neville Chamberlin (British PM from 1937-1940), would've heartily approved of ++Rowan's overtures to the terrorists.

A thousand years ago, when the Crusades were begun to rescue Jerusalem from the hands of Muslims, would they have agreed with today's supposed head of the Church of England? What does the Queen think? After all, she's supposed to be ++Rowan's boss.

Civilian Response To Active Shooters Situations

H/T: Texas CHL Forum

Frank Borelli has many wise words for carriers of concealed weapons. You may not agree with him but I think you will learn a more useful mindset from his article.

Read and consider:

Recognize that instances of active shooters are accellerating. We had a whopping seven school attacks between 1891 and 1970. Since then we've gone from one every three years to three each year to fourteen in '06 and 17 or 18 in 2007. Malls are going to be popular targets as are churches and schools. Anywhere a shooter can get a large group of people to shoot randomly into with a perceived low level of threat to the shooter will become a targeted area.

"Dear [Decision Maker]."

Tamara's wit just bites! ;>)

Dear [ Decision Maker ],

I just found out that the evil Chimpy McHitlerburton administration is considering allowing loaded guns in national parks. How can this be? When I visit our national parks, I expect them to be safe and serene and full of beautiful wildlife, like bears and cougars and escaped rapists. But allowing guns in our national parks could change all that. Please don't turn off the force field keeping the icky guns out and the magic unicorns in!

Right now, firearms must be unloaded and put away, but still can be legally transported in such a fashion that the illiterate peasantry won't misuse them. (You know, for things like self-defense.) Assertions that firearms cannot be possessed or transported in national park are simply false. So why the rush to change the regulations? The law is reasonable, and it keeps visitors safe from being traumatized by the sight of nasty firearms in the hands of the hoi polloi.

I urge you to keep the current regulations and not open up our national parks to loaded weapons in the hands of law-abiding permit holders. The only people who should have guns in national parks are people who have the proper accessories, like shovels, gloves, tarps, and rolls of duct tape. Thank you for considering my views.

Sincerely,
A. Bedwetter

The Times, They Are A-Changing

Coming to a country near you.

So, with that caveat established, let’s imagine a United States of the very near future.

A United States where:

• An ultra-liberal candidate for president has the unethical support of almost the top 100 newspapers in the country, the top three television networks, and two of the three top cable networks.

• Nancy Pelosi and other liberals would like to silence the needed and conservative voices of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Glenn Beck, Laura Ingraham, and others.

• Some Republicans are morphing into liberal Democrats in order to keep their seats at any cost.

• Border security has become a punch-line for many elected officials on both sides of the aisle.

• . . .

Whoops. I’m sorry. Did I say “the near future?” I meant now.

Yep, right now! Right here!

Is God a Liberal Democrat?

Mark D. Tooley writes about a Lutheran (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) manifesto as it were written by my former denomination's leadership - TEo.

. . . remarkably, the divine priorities was very akin to the Democratic Party’s priorities, if not further to the left.

~~~
“The Scriptures are clear about God's concern for and solidarity with people living in poverty and on the margins of society,” the Lutherans portentously intoned in the letter. “They are equally clear that God calls us to be stewards of creation. We bring into the public square a commitment to service for the well-being of all of God's children and a faith conviction that government is an important catalyst in God's work of restoring peace, achieving economic justice and protecting the environment.”
Nobody wants to really argue with those goals. However, there is more to this tale.
Observe that the Lutherans cite government as “an important catalyst in God’s work.” In fact, their agenda implies that government is virtually God’s only instrument. The Lutherans want government to abolish poverty, prohibit war, cleanse the environment, engineer egalitarian justice globally, and seemingly usher in The Millennium through additional regulation and taxation. If government can achieve so much, who needs God, much less the church?
~~~

Many of America’s lower income people are indeed trapped in a cycle of relative subsistence, thanks partly to government programs that punish initiative, and social pathologies that inhibit advance. Avoiding poverty in America mostly entails finishing high school, shunning drug and alcohol addictions, not having illegitimate children, and avoiding divorce. But the Religious Left, contrary to its own religious traditions, is not interested in shaping personal choices. It prefers the compulsion of state regulation and taxation.

~~~
Coercively redistributing old wealth, rather than encouraging creation of new wealth, is always a supreme moral imperative for unimaginative left-wing clergy.
And other socialists!
But officials of the shrinking ELCA, in their demands to the presidential candidates, imply they have less confidence in the Gospel than they do in the healing, wonder-working powers of Big Government.
Obama, Shaman
Michael Knox Beran makes a strong case, INMNSHO, for staying away from the clutches of BHO. He seems to be "misleading" at best.
. . . the modern liberal regards suffering not as an unavoidable element of life but as an aberration to be corrected by up-to-date political, economic, and hygienic arrangements. Rather than acknowledge the limitations of our condition, the liberal continually contrives panaceas that will enable us to transcend it.
~~~

The danger of Obama’s charismatic healer-redeemer fable lies in the hubris it encourages, the belief that gifted politicians can engender a selfless communitarian solidarity. Such a renovation of our national life would require not only a change in constitutional structure—the current system having been geared to conflict by the Founders, who believed that the clash of private interests helps preserve liberty—but also a change in human nature.

~~~
With the triumph of Obama’s post-masculine charisma, the patriarchal collectivism of the New Deal has finally given way to a new vision of liberal community, the empathetic mommy-state
~~~

Obama makes it clear that there is no place, in the politics he advocates, for those “absolutists” who would defy the community. The “ideological core of today’s GOP,” he writes, is “absolutism, not conservatism,” an absolutism driven by those who prize “absolute truth” over “communal values.” This commitment to absolute truth, he argues, stands in the way of a politics that can solve our problems and change our lives.

~~~
Softness has become an asset for candidates who have molded themselves on the exhibitionist model of the Oprah matriarchy.
~~~

But Obama-mania is bound in the end to disappoint.

. . . we pursue false gods and turn away from traditions that really can help us make sense of our condition.

Yep.

Was Schumer's Attack On Indymac Coordinated with 'activist' group?

H/T: American Thinker

Clarice Feldman at American Thinker comments on Jerry Boyer's thoughts at CNBC.

CNBC is suggesting that Senator Schumer's unprecedented role in breaking Indymac, a Pasadena bank, was part of a coordinated scheme with The Center for Responsible Lending , as usual, a name from a far left "public interest" operation which, as is often the case, disguises its objectives and operations.

~~~
. . . Chuck Schumer is no FDR.
You can say that again!
. . . the director of the Office of Thrift Supervision concluded that the collapse of the bank immediately following the Senator’s comments was not a coincidence. Director Reich concluded that Senator Schumer had ‘given the bank a heart attack’.
~~~

A suspicious person might think that a network of lefty attack groups proficient in bank bashing and frequently funded by trial lawyers and short-sellers, coordinated their activities with a law firm on the hunt and a Senator who works closely with the network.

On the other hand, maybe it is a coincidence that CRL and Sen. Schumer attacked the same bank in the same week. Maybe he didn’t know about the CRL report, nor CRL about his letter. Maybe the community group didn’t know about the trial-lawyer class action lawsuit which was launched against Indy a couple of weeks before all of this started.

Yeah, right.

Iraq and the Surrounding Region, As Obama Wanted It

BHO has no real record for us to study when it comes to foreign policy. In fact, what little record he has is rather disquieting if you're not a rabid socialist/communist type.

However, Patrick J. Casey in an American Thinker article shows us how we can determine the probable results of BHO's published comments if he were CinC.

It's worthwhile for us to imagine what Iraq would look like today had Barack Obama been in control way back in 2007 . . .

~~~
So let's look at the scenario of Obama's unconditional "bugging out" of US troops from Iraq in a bit more detail than just an assumption that things would have gone, generally, to hell.
~~~

. . . making it uncomfortably easy for Iran to shut off the flow of Middle East oil and shipping to the rest of the world.

~~~
The capital city (Baghdad) itself would probably look a lot like Beirut right now . . .
~~~

Both Al Qaeda and Iran would be justifiably claiming victory over America, handing them the greatest recruitment tool for terrorist groups ever seen. Terrorist attacks against our troops in Iraq and elsewhere with the resultant loss of life and injuries would be increasing, rather than decreasing.

~~~
. . . the primary reason why Iraq was spiraling out of control in 2006 was not because of military action, but because of the lack of it. The United States had stopped aggressively prosecuting the war, instead choosing to use diplomacy as its main instrument in addressing the deteriorating situation within the country.
~~~

Barack Obama, on the other hand, while publicly requesting "a change in tactics", offered only a plan (S.433) of retreat and surrender.

~~~
Today, we must look back at the clearly stated actions (retreat, no surge) that Obama wanted to take in 2007, and compare them to the results that we can see today of the change in strategy ordered by President Bush that the presumed Democratic Presidential nominee so forcefully opposed at that time.
With that in mind, why should we trust anything that Obama now says about diplomacy or military action in the region that includes Iraq and Iran? If there is even a second of hesitation in answering that question, then Barack Obama should not be elected President and Commander-in-Chief of our armed forces, especially during a time of war.
Our enemies are licking their chops....
Why do the terrorists want BHO and the Demon-rats to win our election? It's really quite elemental, my dear reader! The terrorists want to win!
IDPA: Training or Just a Game?
Steve Denney at Officer.com writes a compelling case for IDPA as a aid to training for law enforcement officers and other professionals. For the rest of us, it is often the only training we get.
Some of us have been blessed with the ability to take an evening's class or two. I paid good money for mine and got my money's worth every time. Now if I could just get the sheckels together for a trip to FrontSite!
. . . a specific way for you to improve your firearms skills, even if your department doesn't have the time or the resources to do as much training as you, or they, would like. Check out IDPA, the International Defensive Pistol Association.
Remembering that IDPA, or any other such competition is a game, Denney goes on with:
As a result, the rules of the game, and yes, it is a game, were established to promote shooter skills that would be useful if they ever had to use a handgun to defend themselves. (Emphasis in the original - Gene)
As a non-LEO (in other words, I am not employed by a law enforcement or security agency. I'm what is otherwise known as "a citizen") my personal experience was very positive when I was shooting with the TSR (now Memorial Shooting Center) Tactical Shooters group every Tuesday night. It was, initially, my only training and practice. The TSR range management and my fellow shooters finally convinced me that I really did need proper "training". Boy! Were they right! :>) I just did not know what I did not know.
Whether you pick IDPA or IPSC or whatever, my point in writing this is to get out "there" and practice!
Margaret Sanger's Dirty Little Secret
H/T: Transfigurations
About 2 or 3 years ago I became aware of Margaret Sanger and her other activities. Evidently she was not quite the do-gooder Planned Parenthood wants us to believe. Especially since her philosophy of eugenics is enshrined in their foundations.
She (Rebecca Messall) takes up the subject of eugenics, the history of the American Eugenics Society and the "personnel overlap with Margaret Sanger's birth control organizations and legislation."
~~~

As she (Sanger) wrote: "Those least fit to carry on the race are increasing most rapidly ... Funds that should be used to raise the standard of our civilization are diverted to maintenance of those who should never have been born."

~~~
It's time to end the use of our taxpayer dollars to eliminate minorities, including pre-born children, who are the most threatened minority in the history of mankind.
I can't agree more with that last statement. Under some proposed legislation, *I* would be aborted due to birth defects. That is not a comforting thought.
While we're at it, PP came out and endorsed BHO. Let's see, now, BHO has the strong endorsements of PP, the Communists, Socialists, Hamas (or is it Hezbollah? I can't discern any real difference between them) and other anti-Americans. Many of the "Americans" that endorse him are profoundly anti-constitutionist.
Do we really want this kind of crowd leading our country? Wherever they they are going is not where I want to be.
IndyMac Bank seized by federal regulators
H/T: World Net Daily
Loose lips sink ships - and banks. Chucky Schumer showed more of his disdain for we the people on June 26. I still think there must be something unhealthy, if not illegal, in New York state's water. Just look who they've elected as senators (Schumer and then Clinton) - repeatedly!
IndyMac, which once employed 10,000, fell prey to a classic run on the bank, and regulators singled out Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) as having helped to fuel massive withdrawals. On June 26, Schumer said in letters to the FDIC, the OTS and two other federal agencies that IndyMac might have "serious problems" with its loan holdings.
"I am concerned that IndyMac's financial deterioration poses significant risks to both taxpayers and borrowers," he wrote. The bank "could face a failure if prescriptive measures are not taken quickly."
That public warning prompted depositors to pull $1.3 billion out of accounts between June 27 and Thursday."
This institution failed today due to a liquidity crisis," John M. Reich, director of the OTS, said at a news conference Friday afternoon. "Although this institution was already in distress, the deposit run pushed IndyMac over the edge."
Of course, IndyMac Back is not in NY, it is in California. So there is no real backlash for Schumer's bad mouthing of it. Unless the Senate finds a pair of brass ones censures him.
I'm not holding my breath.
Obama, Fonda and the "Patriotism of Dissent"
Don Feder takes aim at the strange "reality" of the leftists, and hits COM (Center of Mass - The area between chin and lower abdomen.), with this article:
I don't know any true patriot who questions the right of Americans to dissent on any issue, whether we agree with them or not.
The Left's patriotism-deficit has less to do with dissent than a very real and ingrained hostility toward America.
~~~

Of course, Barack O-Baloney would have us believe that he sat in a pew of the Trinity United Church of Christ for two decades and never heard a word of Wright's acid anti-Americanism. After World War II, there were probably Germans who claimed they never heard Hitler say anything bad about Jews at a Nuremberg rally.

~~~
. . . in 1972, while Hanoi Jane was posing with a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft battery, John McCain was being tortured in the same city. (Fonda later said returning POWs who told us of torture at communist hands were liars.) Or aren't we allowed to question her "patriotism" either?
Whose dissent is prohibited today? Power begets tyranny.
Memo from Leni Riefenstahl
Here's an interesting piece of satire create by Clarice Feldman.
But first, a bit of history according to Wikipedia:
Helene Bertha Amalie "Leni" Riefenstahl (August 22, 1902 – September 8, 2003) was a German film director, dancer and actress widely noted for her aesthetics and innovations as a filmmaker. Her most famous film was Triumph des Willens (Triumph of the Will), a propaganda film made at the 1934 Nuremberg congress of the Nazi Party. Riefenstahl's prominence in the Third Reich along with her personal friendships with Adolf Hitler and Joseph Goebbels thwarted her film career following Germany's defeat in World War II, after which she was arrested but never convicted of war crimes.[1]
The propaganda value of her films made during the 1930s repels most commentators but many film histories cite the aesthetics as outstanding.[2][3][4] After her death the Associated Press described Riefenstahl as an "acclaimed pioneer of film and photographic techniques."[5] Der Tagesspiegel newspaper in Berlin noted, "Leni Riefenstahl conquered new ground in the cinema."[6] The BBC said her documentaries "were hailed as groundbreaking film-making, pioneering techniques involving cranes, tracking rails, and many cameras working at the same time."[7] Reviewer Gary Morris called Riefenstahl "an artist of unparalleled gifts, a woman in an industry dominated by men, one of the great formalists of the cinema on a par with Eisenstein or Welles."[8] Riefenstahl later published her still photography of the Nuba tribes in Africa and made films of marine life.
NOW, go read Feldman's piece. It'll make a lot more sense. ;>)
Look up "useful idiot". You may find her photograph there, among too many others. Michael Moore and certain presidential candidates come to mind.
D.C. Officials Weigh Keeping Semiautomatic Pistols Illegal After Blanket Handgun Ban is Struck Down
H/T: Keep and Bear Arms
If you can't lie well enough to fool the sheeple, ya' might as well admit it! It never was about "gunss". It is only about CONTROL!
. . . one line of D.C. code basically renders semiautomatic handguns as a machine gun, which would still be illegal.
~~~

Gura said the Heller decision does not protect "dangerous or unusual weapons" — like fully automatic, military style machine guns — but it does protect weapons "in common use" or those people would use for "lawful purposes." Semiautomatics, which police departments have made their weapon of choice, would fall under that category, Gura said. (Emphasis added - Gene)

~~~
According to ATF, 73 percent — or more than 1 million guns sold in the U.S. in 2006 — were semiautomatic pistols.
~~~

"Any gun is safe if properly stored and properly handled. ... Whether it's a semiautomatic or a revolver, it's a mechanical device. If you put that gun on a table and nobody touches it and nobody misuses it, that gun will never go off," Pluff said. "Any gun can be safe or unsafe depending on the person's consciousness to safety."

Armed To Save Lives

H/T: Keep and Bear Arms

John Stossel in a 7/9 NY Sun article writes:

For Jefferson and his colleagues, first, there were individuals with rights, then there was government to protect them. The Framers of the Second Amendment did not say, "The people shall have the right to keep and bear arms." They wrote, "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

This isn't just theory. Lives are at stake.

~~~
The victims of gun crimes are easy to count. What cannot be counted are the lives saved because would-be victims were armed. Mr. Palmer's confrontation is one of many that didn't make the news.
He asks, "If someone gets into your house, which would you rather have, a handgun or a telephone? You can call the police if you want, and they'll get there and they'll make a crime report and take a picture of your dead body.
They can't get there in time to save your life."
Alberta Pastor Convicted of Hate Speech Appeals Human Rights Commission Ruling
H/T: Transfigurations
Do we really want to emulate Canada's "huuman rights" laws?
. . . the Alberta Tribunal issued a remedy ruling that ordered Boissoin to pay $7,000 in fines, to never speak disparagingly about homosexuality or about the complainant Darren Lund, and to apologize to Lund in a letter to be published in the Red Deer Advocate.
~~~

. . . the Human Rights Commissions, in prosecuting "hate speech" at all, have turned human rights laws "on their head" and have made them "a weapon against the individual."

"When you apply human rights laws to landlords and employers, organizations that are in positions of power, you can see how, yeah, that makes sense. They have a position of power and we need to defend the powerless. But when you take those same human rights laws, and instead of applying them to government or to employers or landlords, we now start using them as a means to have a witch hunt in the community, and start to control what people think and say, then you can easily see how what was intended to be a protection for the individual then becomes in fact a weapon against the individual."

Brazilian Judge: Catholic Priest's Book Denouncing Witchcraft Must be Removed from Bookstores

H/T: Transfigurations

Subtitled: "Declares that state government has obligation to preserve 'respectability' and 'permanence' of such practices"

Another country whose "human rights" laws we do not want to emulate!

The ruling follows other actions that have been taken against Christians in Brazil for publicly expressing their views regarding forms of behavior that are currently favored by the political establishment.

Holy Smoke - C of E bishop will lead Anglicans to Rome

H/T: Transfigurations

A blogger, Damien Thompson, reports:

The Bishop of Ebbsfleet, the Rt Rev Andrew Burnham, is to lead his fellow Anglo-Catholics from the Church of England into the Roman Catholic Church, the Catholic Herald will reveal this week.

~~~
In his statement, Bishop Burnham explains why he is rejecting the code of practice offered to traditionalists by the General Synod last night. "How could we trust a code of practice to deliver a workable ecclesiology if every suggestion we have made for our inclusion has been turned down flat?" he asks.
That "code of practice" now provides for the election of women priests to the episcopate in the Church of England. Quite a contentious piece of news for them.
Several hundred priests have already indicated they will have to reconsider their relationships with the C of E.
BTW, the good +Burnham is one of two "flying bishops" in the province of Canterbury. I guess that makes his boss the Archbishop of Canterbury? Even if I'm wrong, ++Williams can't be too happy about this development.
Former atheist Miranda Threlfall-Holmes leads candidates to be female bishop
H/T: Transfigurations
Who among us Christians has not prayed this prayer at one time or another?
Ms. Threlfall-Holmes certainly has my empathy.
She became a Christian at Cambridge University when, during a "messy situation", she was reduced to praying the atheist's prayer: "Dear God, if there is a God, please sort this out."
She said: "Suddenly God was there in the room in a way that is impossible to describe, but He was definitely there." Her response was to swear violently. But the whole difficulty she had been wrestling with "melted away" the following day. (Emphasis added - Gene)
As one Transfigurations commenter posted, violent swearing is not the usual response to God the Three-in-One breaking in to some one's life. I don't want to make too much of this one point, but I must ask: Just who was it that made every thing "melt away"?
Enquiring minds want to know!
Sleepwalking into Islamisation
H/T: Transfigurations
Melanie Phillips, in an abridged article of her book Londonistan, has the following, and much more, to say about formerly "Great" Britain.
Britain still doesn’t grasp that it is facing a pincer attack from both terrorism and cultural infiltration and usurpation.
~~~

After a vicar in East London, Canon Michael Ainsworth, was beaten up by three Muslims in his own churchyard in March, it was revealed that there had been many attacks on churches in the area by such youths, who on one occasion shouted: ‘This should not be a church, this should be a mosque.’

Yet last month, one of the youths in the Ainsworth attack walked free after a judge accepted his claim that the attack was not religiously motivated.

~~~
The Islamists launched their jihad against the West because they perceived it was so weak and confused it would not possess the wherewithal to defend itself. When it comes to Britain, they never spoke a truer word.
Maybe we should take heed.
Pro-Homosexual Denominations Lose Members
H/T: Transfigurations
I think the title says it all. Read the whole article. J. Grant Swank doesn't just pick on the poor li'l, and shrinking, TEo, he takes a swipe at other liberal denominations while he's at it.
The Episcopal Church has been at the forefront of baptizing active homosexual lifestyle as God-blessed.
Since 1960, that denomination has decreased in membership by 48%.
~~~

By contrast, denominations preaching the Bible as divine revelation, openly stating their love for homosexuals but their disdain for homosexual activity, have grown in membership and church attendance.

For instance, the Southern Baptist Convention has increased in membership by 76% according to the National Council of Churches statistics for 2007. - (Emphasis added - Gene)

First, I found all of the above articles about religion, politics, gun rights and other interesting issues that I just had to save for further snarking.

Then, I threw SWMBO! out! :>)

Hehe!

Out of the office, that is. She and I had been sharing the same desktop space using a KVM (keyboard-video-mouse) switch and separate machines and UPSs (uninterpretable power supplies). Now that I've started blogging, it just hasn't worked out as smoothly as before.

Now she's back in her own space with a full installation working off the WiFi that was installed for her and the now defunct laptop. I've been kinda rough on them thangs!

A Nation of Cowards

H/T: Texas CHL Forum (The post leads to a text version of the HTML article (1993) linked in the title - Gene)

Our entire popular culture . . . positively screams the matchless worth of the individual . . .

BUT . . .

. . . the media and the law enforcement establishment continually advise us that, when confronted with the threat of lethal violence, we should not resist, but simply give the attacker what he wants.

~~~
If the individual's dignity lies in the fact that he is a moral agent engaging in actions of his own will, in free exchange with others, then crime always violates the victim's dignity.
Our home was burglarized twice. Our car once. Under a street light. In front of our church. All of us felt violated afterwards. Oh, yeah. And fearful. too. Even when the culprits were caught and in custody before we knew of their crimes. Besides, they didn't stay in custody very long.
BTW, we had long discussions about "What if . . .":
  • My wife or very young daughter had been home and . . .
  • I had been there alone . . .
  • All of us had been there . . .
The pair of "good kids gone bad" that were caught the first time and the other pair of "good kids gone bad" that were observed, too late to apprehend, would probably have messed in their pants and run for it. Then.
Small comfort when YOU and YOURS come to the attention of someone already violating both moral and criminal law. There IS no room for a so-called "social contract" BS the elitists want us to swallow!
Snyder continues:
Although difficult for modern man to fathom, it was once widely believed that life was a gift from God, that to not defend that life when offered violence was to hold God's gift in contempt, to be a coward and to breach one's duty to one's community. A sermon given in Philadelphia in 1747 unequivocally equated the failure to defend oneself with suicide: "He that suffers his life to be taken from him by one that hath no authority for that purpose, when he might preserve it by defense, incurs the Guilt of self murder since God hath enjoined him to seek the continuance of his life, and Nature itself teaches every creature to defend itself."
~~~

"Cowardice" and "self-respect" have largely disappeared from public discourse.

~~~
It is impossible to address the problem of rampant crime without talking about the moral responsibility of the intended victim. Crime is rampant because the law-abiding, each of us, condone it, excuse it, permit it, submit to it. We permit and encourage it because we do not fight back, immediately, then and there, where it happens. Crime is not rampant because we do not have enough prisons, because judges and prosecutors are too soft, because the police are hamstrung with absurd technicalities. The defect is there, in our character. We are a nation of cowards and shirkers.
~~~

The idea that protection is a service people can call to have delivered and expect to receive in a timely fashion is often mocked by gun owners, who love to recite the challenge, "Call for a cop, call for an ambulance, and call for a pizza. See who shows up first."

~~~
Many people deal with the problem of crime by convincing themselves that they live, work, and travel only in special "crime-free" zones. Invariably, they react with shock and hurt surprise when they discover that criminals do not play by the rules and do not respect these imaginary boundaries. If, however, you understand that crime can occur anywhere at anytime, and if you understand that you can be maimed or mortally wounded in mere seconds, you may wish to consider whether you are willing to place the responsibility for safeguarding your life in the hands of others.
~~~

By any rational measure, nearly all gun control proposals are hokum.

~~~
They (gun control measures - Gene) are founded on the belief that America's law-abiding gun owners are the source of the problem.
~~~

No, the gun control proposals of HCI (Handgun Control, Inc. - now known as the Brady Violence Policy Center - Gene) and other organizations are not seriously intended as crime control. Something else is at work here.

~~~
Gun control is a moral crusade against a benighted, barbaric citizenry. This is demonstrated not only by the ineffectualness of gun control in preventing crime, and by the fact that it focuses on restricting the behavior of the law-abiding rather than apprehending and punishing the guilty . . .
~~~

. . . "[s]tudies consistently show that, on the average, gun owners are better educated and have more prestigious jobs than non-owners.... Later studies show that gun owners are less likely than non-owners to approve of police brutality, violence against dissenters, etc."

~~~
The liberal elite know that they are philosopher-kings. They know that the people simply cannot be trusted; that they are incapable of just and fair self-government; that left to their own devices, their society will be racist, sexist, homophobic, and inequitable -- and the liberal elite know how to fix things. They are going to help us live the good and just life, even if they have to lie to us and force us to do it. And they detest those who stand in their way. (Emphasis added - Gene)
~~~

Classical republican philosophy has long recognized the critical relationship between personal liberty and the possession of arms by a people ready and willing to use them. Political theorists as dissimilar as Niccolo Machiavelli, Sir Thomas More, James Harrington, Algernon Sidney, John Locke, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau all shared the view that the possession of arms is vital for resisting tyranny, and that to be disarmed by one's government is tantamount to being enslaved by it.

~~~
It is by no means obvious why it is "civilized" to permit oneself to fall easy prey to criminal violence, and to permit criminals to continue unobstructed in their evil ways.
~~~

In truth, one who believes it wrong to arm himself against criminal violence shows contempt of God's gift of life (or, in modern parlance, does not properly value himself), does not live up to his responsibilities to his family and community, and proclaims himself mentally and morally deficient, because he does not trust himself to behave responsibly. In truth, a state that deprives its law-abiding citizens of the means to effectively defend themselves is not civilized but barbarous, becoming an accomplice of murderers, rapists, and thugs and revealing its totalitarian nature by its tacit admission that the disorganized, random havoc created by criminals is far less a threat than are men and women who believe themselves free and independent, and act accordingly. (Emphasis added - Gene)

~~~
Our society suffers greatly from the beliefs that only official action is legitimate and that the state is the source of our earthly salvation.
~~~

. . . and that crime is not about sex or property but life, liberty, and dignity.

~~~
The republic depends upon fervent devotion to all our fundamental rights.
Read it all!
. . . "the mainstream media find it inconveniently contradicts the story they have been telling you for years."
~~~

. . . it is way too naive to think being under IAEA safeguard really means "safe". First, Saddam continually defied the IAEA as it was; that was a reason for multiple UN resolutions to sanction him. Second . . .

. . . the IAEA was no guarantee . . .

Replacing the National Anthem

Dennis Prager at FrontPage Magazine has some extremely serious information in this article. Make sure you read the last paragraph of the article (and quoted at the end of these snippets).

Last week in Denver, almost all the values of the post-1960s left were exhibited in one act.

~~~
What Marie did embodied a plethora of leftist ideals and characteristics: Ethical relativism, multiculturalism, the supremacy of feelings, the belief that artists are above normal ethical standards and group victimization.
~~~

The notion that lying to the mayor of Denver (a Democrat [in other words, a fellow leftist - Gene], as it happens) when she agreed to his invitation to sing the National Anthem was unethical or immoral is foreign to Ms. Marie.

~~~
But a Black National Anthem, when substituted for the National Anthem, means that there are two nations on American soil, a black one and an American one.
~~~

At some point in the second half of the 20th century the belief arose that artists formed a moral elite.

~~~
Artists are above morality. While you and I should not deceive people, artists may.
~~~

The moral consequence of this (victimhood - Gene) is that the victim, like the artist, like the feelings-determine-morality individual, can do more or less whatever he pleases.

~~~
Final note: If you do not now fear for America's future, please go on the Internet and watch the Denver city officials respectfully watch a woman substitute her own song for that of the National Anthem. Watch how not a single official stopped her, or even demanded that the National Anthem be sung afterward. And listen to the applause. Then you will fear for our country's future.
'Nuff said!
What Barack Obama learned from the Communist Party
IF Andre Walden's "facts" are indeed just that - FACTS and he has them strung together in an accurate manner, then we are preparing to vote for a Communist with a capital "C".
That does not thrill my heart.
Click on the title above and read it Walden's article for yourself and draw your own conclusions. Hyperlinks were included in the original article.
American voters must make up their minds about what Barack Obama really believes in, if anything.
~~~

. . . Obama teaches lessons about being black learned from a Communist. Handed a golden opportunity to define himself as an individual, he instead defines himself as part of a group.

~~~
As described in Dreams from my Father, for Obama, his parents and grandparents' political views define family ties and human characteristics. But wisdom is gathered from the type of political activists Obama looks up to.
~~~

Obama won the State Senate seat in 1996 after being hand-picked by the outgoing incumbent, Alice Palmer. Palmer was an executive board member of the US Peace Council, US affiliate of the World Peace Council, a communist front group founded by Stalin in 1948 and funded by the USSR.

~~~
She (Obama's mother) spent most of her latter years establishing micro credit banking in Indonesia and other countries so the poorest third world women could become independent small businesspersons, not socialist slaves.
~~~

Certainly, socialists and leftists have flocked to embrace Obama's candidacy. His campaign even hosts a page for Marxists/socialists/communists for Obama, albeit with a disclaimer at the bottom. And the Communist Party USA backs Obama's candidacy.

What remains from Marxism in America is a desire to appropriate the wealth of some and distribute it to those who did not earn it in the name of "fairness," and the arrogant belief that politically correct ideology denotes superiority and the right to wield political power.

In other words, is BHO a kind of "Manchurian Candidate"? He is certainly no friend of America.

Tablet ignites debate on messiah and resurrection

H/T: Virtue Online

This is a very interesting article linking archeology and Judaism and Christianity more tightly than ever. Unless the tablet proves to be a fake as some items do.

"His mission is that he has to be put to death by the Romans to suffer so his blood will be the sign for redemption to come," Knohl said. "This is the sign of the son of Joseph. This is the conscious view of Jesus himself. This gives the Last Supper an absolutely different meaning. To shed blood is not for the sins of people but to bring redemption to Israel."

Knohl got it part right. As His Word says, to the Jews first - then to the Gentiles (the rest of us).

New Episcopal Bishop - Andy Doyle

According to my interpretation of David Virtue's comments and events here in the TEo diocese of Texas, Andy Doyle, next TEo bishop had better put his flame-retardent underwear on, and cinch it tight! ;>) Perhaps the pew sitters should do the same.

Andy's riding into deep weeds when he takes on the bishop's mitre.

When The Rt. Rev. Andy Doyle takes over as the next BISHOP OF TEXAS, he will be the nation's second-youngest bishop. As Canon to the Ordinary, Doyle navigated a sexual abuse scandal involving now-retired priest James L. Tucker. After a church tribunal in February, which included testimony from several men who said Tucker had molested them while they were students at St. Stephen's (a school in West Austin - Gene) in the 1960s, the diocese stripped Tucker of his priestly orders. Doyle has continued to work with victims on compensation. His views, however, will not cause any excitement to orthodox Episcopalians in his diocese. He got accolades from the liberal Greg Rickel, former rector of St. James' Episcopal Church in East Austin and now bishop of Olympia, Washington. That speaks volumes. When questioned about the divisions in the church and TEC's abandonment of Scripture authority, Doyle didn't offer any opinions on those issues, saying "there hasn't ever been a time in the history of the church where everyone has agreed on everything."

When asked what he will do about priests who reject the belief in the bodily resurrection of Jesus, Doyle said he would do nothing as some priests have always argued that. "I guess I'm just not that worried," he said. The Apostle Paul would thoroughly disagree with Doyle, declaring that such persons' faith was "in vain" and that they shouldn't be in pulpits expounding rubbish. Doyle had this choice line, "I don't want history to judge me by whether I checked the right boxes on controversial questions." The Last Judgment will decide otherwise.

What will he "do about priests who reject the belief in the bodily resurrection of Jesus"? "Nothing" What a guy! Didn't he, or will he not, somewhere, swear to defend the faith?

With a "defenders" such as Wimberly, Spong, Pike, Jefferts-Schori and now Doyle, too many other "bishops" to list, the TEo signed its death warrant. Maybe the pew sitters still left in the organization will wake up before the fumes of brimstone overcome them. I certainly hope so.

Bud Day, Medal of Honor Recipient

~~~
American soldiers in Vietnam were falsely accused of being a “barbarian horde,” “rapists,” “murderers,” “drug addicts” and “baby killers.” Today, their sons, daughters and grandchildren serving in uniform stand accused of being “terrorists,” “Nazis,” “cold-blooded murderers,” people who wantonly conduct “air raids on villages” bombing and killing civilians.
Every one of those spurious accusations were spewed from the Halls of Congress, most often by the same men and women who voted to send America’s youth to war, only to denounce, vilify and abandon them later, when the opportunity for personal, political advantage presented itself.
~~~

.. . . we said Kerry and his anti-war followers were liars and frauds working on behalf of our brutal Communists captors. Their collaboration with the enemy prolonged our captivity and the Vietnam War itself by years. Their vicious lies accusing us and all U.S. servicemen of being “war criminals” put our lives and the lives of Americans still fighting on the battlefield in grave danger.

~~~
America’s military didn’t lose the Vietnam War. Congress declared defeat, voted to abandon South Vietnam nearly two years after our last combat troops left. That sell-out, not only of our South Vietnam ally, but the nearly 60,000 Americans who gave their lives on the battlefield, ignited a genocidal holocaust throughout Southeast Asia that can still only be measured in the millions, an estimated three to five million innocent civilians brutally murdered.
~~~

Nor, could we know then the Left’s plans to use the same Vietnam blueprint for defeat in Iraq. Little wonder Kerry and his followers wanted to sue us into silence

Vanderboegh: V

I copied Mike's post for reference in case I lost the link to his original.

Click on the title above and scroll down to find "Vanderboegh: V" dated Thursday, July 3, 2008. Or, you can read it all here.

V
by Mike Vanderboegh
3 July 2008

"Dot-Dot-Dot-Dash" -- International Morse Code for the letter V.

"Da-Da-Da-Dah" -- The opening notes of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony.

"V" -- Hand signal consisting of the first two fingers of either hand extended, with last two tucked under the thumb, popularized by Winston Churchill, 1940-1945.

All of the above: Symbols of promised victory by the Allies in World War II.

"Vrijheid"

During World War II, the Dutch people listened to the forbidden broadcasts of the BBC to get their war news. If they were caught, they would be arrested by the Gestapo.

"This is London . . ." the broadcasts would always begin, with the fateful opening notes of Beethoven's Fifth, "da - da - da - dah, da- da- da- dah," in what everyone knew was musical Morse code shorthand for "Victory." In Dutch the word was "Vrijheid."

Soon, the Dutch Resistance, chafing under Nazi occupation, would sneak out at night, violating the curfew to paint the word on walls. Often, they would just make a V.

The shorthand was just as good. And if you were caught, it would earn you a one-way trip to Gestapoland.

Think of that. A possible death sentence just for making a letter on a wall.

But it was more than a letter - it was a symbol. A powerful symbol. And dictatorships don't like symbols they don't create or control.

The Dutch weren't the only ones who taunted their occupiers with the V. The French and Belgians would also.

V for Victoire.

Charles DeGaulle used it in every speech he made over the BBC Worldwide from 1942 on.

In that, he was imitating Winston Churchill of course, who used a V sign in both versions to symbolize "V for Victory." Early in the war he used palm in (sometimes with a cigar between the fingers). Later, he used palm out. He probably made the change after it was explained to him that the lower classes in Britain used the palm-in two-finger salute as an insult.

"Now go away, or I shall taunt you a second time." -- Faux Frenchman to King Arthur in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

And the origins of THAT went way back.

In 14th Century French historian Jean Froissart's "Chronicles," he recounts a story of the English waving their fingers at the French during the siege of a castle. According to legend, the two-fingers salute and/or V sign derives from the gestures of English longbowmen at the Battle of Agincourt (1415) during the Hundred Years War. The French, it was said, cut off the index and middle fingers of the right hand of any captured archers, and so the gesture was a sign of defiance from the greatly outnumbered English.

Jean LeFevre, a Frenchman who fought on the English side at Agincourt, was later quoted as saying that Henry V included a reference to the French cutting off longbowmen's fingers in his pre-battle speech. Sometime in the intervening centuries, this became equivalent to "diddle you." And this "dirty" version of the insult has remained in English lower class usage right up until today.

But during World War II, thanks to Churchill it became the one symbol that bound all the Allied combatants together. "Vrijheid," "victoire," or "victory," the V meant the same thing and it is a measure of its power to inspire, and the discomfiture that it caused the Nazis, that its use was punished so severely.

Of course since World War II, its power to patriotically inspire has sadly diminished. First, Richard Nixon made it into a silly charicature of Churchill's defiant gesture. Then the anti-Vietnam War "peace movement" co-opted it, so that nowadays if someone uses it, it is called "the peace sign."

A typical dirty collectivist trick.

;-)

"3%": A promise of Victory

So why am I concerned about the history of the "V" sign?

It's just this. As gunnies, as members of the armed citizenry of the Republic of the united States, we too need a symbol.

Something as short, sweet and powerful as the "V". Something that can be painted on the side of a building, or across the face of an anti-gun billboard or re-election sign of a gun grabbing politician. Something powerful. Something easy. Something even a bit scary to collectivists with frayed nerves so as to disturb their beauty sleep.

Think of it as a freedom "gang sign".

And here is what I propose.

3.

That's right - just 3.

Why?

Because as with all things powerful you need something that connects you to those "mystic chords of memory" that Lincoln spoke of. The "V for Victory" hearkened back to the defiant English longbowmen.

But we as Americans should remember the 3 per cent. During our Revolution, from a population of somewhat over 2 million, the rebels fielded an army of Continentals, sailors and militia that at any given time amounted to a mere 3 per cent of the population.

3 percent.

These were actively supported by only, perhaps, another ten percent. That's all. By the end of the war, in fact, there were more Loyalist colonists serving in the King's forces than there were revolutionaries. Yet with just three percent the Founders overthrew the power of the greatest military empire on the planet at the time.

And if we look around today, at what the armed citizenry has become, can we count on more than 3 percent to stand up to any future tyranny?

Perhaps.

Perhaps not.

But reminding ourselves (and our Constitution's enemies) daily that the Founders did it with just 3 percent ought to encourage us and give them pause.

As with the "V", it can be displayed a number of ways. With your hand, display the first three fingers with the fourth tucked under your thumb, fingers pointing up like Churchill's V.

To our friends, show it palm out.

To our enemies, show it palm in.

On a wall or billboard it can be written "3," or the Roman numeral "III" or "3%" or "3 pct".

It also has the advantage of incorporating the "V" -- the English longbowman's taunt -- without anyone mistaking it for a stinking "peace symbol."

Sort of a "victory plus" with attitude.

If you count the poll numbers on the question of the strict interpretation -- the Founders' interpretation -- of the Second Amendment versus the collectivists' "reasonable regulation" we are even now a despised minority within our own country.

So what?

If the Founders did it with 3 percent, so can we. In our generation, which will continue the struggle for the Founders' republic in the 21st Century, 3 percent will still be enough.

If enough of us send a message like Churchill, maybe one day it will cause a chill to run down the spine of the gun grabbers just as the V did to the Nazis in World War II.

Like the V, it would be a promise of victory over tyranny, to ourselves and the enemies of liberty.

The Faith of Our Founders

Our National Anthem

I MUST post this. The fiasco with the "singer" up in Denver still rankles.

The woman is welcome to her opinions. If she was paid for this gig, maybe she needs to be sued for breach of contract. Otherwise, charge her with disturbing the peace.

The Star Spangled Banner
Composed by Francis Scott Key,
"In Defense of Fort McHenry", September 20, 1814.
Congress proclaimed it the U.S. National Anthem in 1931.

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner: O, long may it waveO'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash'd out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slaveF
rom the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand,
Between their lov'd homes and the war's desolation;
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
