Brigid waxes philosophical at Home on the Range.

I worry about fate less; yes sometimes you are simply the bug on the windshield by being at the wrong place at the right time but I've also found that a good portion of our misfortunes arise, not from fate or ill health or the vagrancies of the winds, but from human rancor, fueled by innate stupidity, and those ever present justifications of the same, hell bent idealism and proselytizing mania for the sake of religious or political effigies.

I've never had the sense of clockwork conspiracies, or some kind of imposing order of evil. There's simply a sense of things falling apart. That's my sense of how most bad things happen, that it's not usually some kind of calculated evil driven by karma, but simply control disintegrating. Most times, things fall apart and happen out of stupidity and carelessness, not any one's personal jihad.

On What Planet Does This Person Live?

H/T: Xavier Thoughts

The fictional character Forrest Gump had a saying that has become somewhat popular: Stupid is as stupid does. Or something like that! ;>)

I guess this lady doesn't want her kid to be safe around firearms. I guess she thinks she can "protect" her "baby" from all evil in this fallen world.

"If a student comes across a weapon, they're supposed to stop, don't touch the weapon and then run away and tell an adult. Those are the parts that are taught," said Reavis Wortham with Garland I.S.D.

Howe doesn't see it as deterrent. She believes it only encourages curiosity.

Garland school officials say the safety curriculum is 10 years old and this is the first complaint the district has received since it began. (Emphasis added - Gene)

Some people need to engage their brains before spouting off! ;>) I am flabbergasted!

SWMBO! showed me something that seems particularly appropriate at this time of bail-outs and porkulus.

It's from Mini-Moments for Mothers - Forty Bright Spots to make a mother's day by Robert Strand.

Ten Cannots

We are familiar the the TEN COMMANDMENTS . . . let me share with you the following "TEN CANNOTS."

I. YOU CANNOT bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
II. YOU CANNOT help small people by tearing down the big people.
III, YOU CANNOT strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
IV, YOU CANNOT help the poor by destroying the rich.
V. YOU CANNOT keep put of financial trouble by spending more than your income.
VI. YOU CANNOT further brotherhood/sisterhood by inciting class hatred.
VII. YOU CANNOT establish financial security on borrowed money.
VIII. YOU CANNOT build character by taking away initiative and independence.
IX. YOU CANNOT help people by doing for them what they could do for themselves.
X. YOU CANNOT have a meaningful life with god.

The greatest thing in this world is not so much where we are, but in what direction we are moving (O. W. Holmes)

Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
(Josh. 1:8)

It's kinda funny, in a sad way. This book was first printed in 1996 and SWMBO's version, the 8th printing, was printed in 2001. It was new when she received it.

To read it without that context, one would think Robert Strand wrote it for today's headliners.

This Archbishop ROCKS!

H/T: WorldNetDaily

Denver Roman Catholic Archbishop Charles Chaput has his act together - completely!

Consider the following statements he made recently in Toronto:

The result, he said, is that members of the church "owe no leader any submission or cooperation in the pursuit of grave evil."

"In fact, we have the duty to change bad laws and resist grave evil in our public life, both by our words and our non-violent actions," he said. "Second, in democracies, we elect public servants, not messiahs.

"We can't talk piously about programs to reduce the abortion body count without also working vigorously to change the laws that make the killing possible. If we're Catholic, then we believe in the sanctity of developing human life. And if we don't really believe in the humanity of the unborn child from the moment life begins, then we should stop lying to ourselves and others, and even to God, by claiming we're something we're not," he said.

"We need to remember that tolerance is not a Christian virtue.

"You still remember Jim Jones? He was a gifted very charismatic preacher and what happen[ed] to his followers?" added another.
(Comment from a participant at the event - Gene)

WND recently reported when Obama was picked ahead of Jesus as a "hero" to respondents in an online Harris poll and also when Nation of Islam radical Louis Farrakhan said regarding Obama: "The Messiah is absolutely speaking."

CNN, also, likened Obama's inauguration in Washington to the "hajj," the once-a-lifetime trip faithful Muslims make to their holy city of Mecca.

We don't do what we're told!

H/T: Keep And Bear Arms

Are you awake now? If not, go back and read the previous post: Semi-Automatic Rifle Ban Would Reduce Jobs, Not Crime. Take another shot of caffeine and consider what Our Dear Leader is trying to pull over our eyes. It ain't Wool!

Daniel White, Cleveland Gun Rights Examiner, says it well:

We're told that we'll likely never be the victim of a criminal attack. That we're to rely on the odds to protect us. If we lose the victimization lottery, we're allowed only to try to chase off our attacker with rape whistles, pepper spray, car keys, or cell phones. Some have given advice to women that in case of attempted rape they should urinate, vomit, tell the rapist they have an STD, or try to get them to wear a condom. Anything but use deadly force, because you don't have the right to take a life for any reason, and if you had a real weapon the attacker would probably just take it from you anyway.

That's why those people don't like those of us who carry guns for self defense. We're not doing what we're told. We don't trust in providence, and we don't pray that a police officer will happen to be nearby and arrive in time to stop the crime and save our lives. We can take care of ourselves, and that's the real threat. It's not that they really think we're the source of crime or that we're all just one bad da(y) away from climbing a bell tower, it's that we are a threat to their power.

Because if we're not constantly scared, we might just realize that we don't really need a nanny state to tell us what to do and keep us "safe".As long as you have the ability to make your NO mean just that, you are a threat to your assailant.

Whether your assailant is our Dear Leader's gummint or a mugger, does anything change the rules of the game? NO!

We're sheepdogs, not sheep... and that disrupts their plans.

If you value freedom, you have to keep disrupting those plans. When they tell you they need to ban "assault weapons," challenge them to show you why it is necessary when those guns are used in less than 1% of all crimes. When they tell you they need to enact microstamping, when forensic investigations already accomplish the exact same thing, demand to know why. When they want to ban private sales of firearms, ask how that will keep a gun out of the hands of criminals.

It's only the ones that hate your personal freedoms that will show their ire, and that's ok. Because the more they dislike you, the more free you'll be.

Semi-Automatic Rifle Ban Would Reduce Jobs, Not Crime

H/T: Keep And Bear Arms

The National Shooting Sports Foundation has a timely reminder for our sOcialist administration:

"These types of firearms, which are erroneously called 'assault weapons,' are used by millions of Americans for hunting, sporting and personal defense purposes,"

Holder's use of the inaccurate term "assault weapons" is one that is deliberately used by gun-ban advocates to create confusion between legally sold, semi-automatic rifles and look-a-like, fully automatic military versions. While the civilian version of these rifles may resemble their military counterparts, the civilian rifle fires only one round with each pull of the trigger. Additionally, these rifles fire ammunition calibers no more powerful than traditional-looking sporting arms. Civilian access to fully automatic machine guns has been severely restricted since 1934.

Studies show that the ban against sporting firearms, known as the Assault Weapons Ban, that was in place from 1994 to 2004 did not reduce crime. Furthermore, there has been no increase in crime involving these types of firearms since Congress allowed the ban to expire.

A ban on sporting firearms also would have a severe effect on jobs and the economy. Sales of semi-automatic rifles have been strong over the last several months -- overall sales of firearms have increased as much as 42 percent -- and have allowed companies in the firearms industry to withstand, to some extent, the downturn in the economy.

Emphasis added - Gene

Just in case your eyes glazed over before the end of the quote, I'll repeat the "money" quote here:

"Sales of semi-automatic rifles have been strong over the last several months -- overall sales of firearms have increased as much as 42 percent -- and have allowed companies in the firearms industry to withstand, to some extent, the downturn in the economy."

The Mexican Excuse: Stealing Freedom

H/T: American Thinker

Lance Fairchok in a letter to the editor:

Attorney General Eric Holder and President Obama wish to reinstate the assault weapons ban, a ban of specific types of semi-automatic weapons imposed on Americans during the Clinton Administration.

There is little evidence to support a ban. What they cannot steal openly they will take piecemeal. Excuses are easily found.

Mr. Fairchok politely states the case for resisting the AWB. In fact, he points out the very facts the elite socialists of our current culture government want us to ignore. The AWB is simply a feel-good measure that only serves to disarm the law-abiding and does NOTHING to disarm the criminal elements it is supposedly aimed at.

How He Did It: A Diagrammatic Analysis of the Obama Campaign

H/T: American Thinker

Paul Shlichta, at the American Thinker, has an intriguing piece.

If things are really the way he thinks they are, we, the people, have been out and out snookered. For those wondering about my precision in the use of Americanized English, snookered means we have been screwed. Royally.

To determine what made Obama's campaign a success, we must look deeper to identify the basic psychological qualities that underlie these strategies. I perceive them to be:

  • a finely developed skill in strategy, worthy of a great general [4],
  • a tremendous audacity, enabling him to succeed in risky or controversial tactics that his opponents would not dare to attempt [5],
  • a stage magician's skill in misdirection, compelling the public to perceive only what he wishes them to see and ignore what he wishes them to overlook,
  • a penchant for evasion and concealment---the very opposite of his much-vaunted desire for "transparency"---often achieved by saying one thing (such deploring "negativity") while inciting others (such as 527 groups or his "dogs of war") to do the opposite,
  • utter ruthlessness: a willingness to resort to, or at least tolerate, deception and fraud to achieve desired objectives.

If, as I contend, these are the root qualities that created the Obama campaign, then we should expect more of the same from the new Obama administration. For starters, the stimulus Trojan horse is a convincing example.

Ouch! Paul, tell us how you really feel!

Here it Comes, Again . . . .

H/T: The View From the Porch

And "they" complain that Bush "lied" to the nation! OK, the O-messiah said we didn't have anything to worry about. He "wasn't" coming for our guns. He really isn't! He's sending his Attorney General, Holder, out to retrieve them by hook or crook.

The Obama administration will seek to reinstate the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 during the Bush administration, Attorney General Eric Holder said today. - Link included in the original - Gene

Anything that tries to involve licensing or registration, however, will be lucky to just meet with massive noncompliance.

Amen to that. I hope that massive noncompliance suffices to stop this BS.

Gun Lobby Working Overtime to Normalize Abnormal Behavior

H/T: Keep And Bear Arms

The "Gun Guys" make we wonder just what kinda "gun" they're promoting!

Our nation is being held hostage by the gun lobby's extremist agenda.

This quote is more than slightly misleading since it suggests the gun lobby is all powerful and pervasive. We should be so fortunate! Probably not! ;>)

Just who is it holding our nation "hostage"? I suggest to you that the interests behind the anti-defense, anti-responsibility, socialist push is the hostage taker. These interests want control of this country and they know that the "3%" (for "3%" information, click on the "III" symbol below) will not allow it to be surrendered without a terrible fight in the halls of legislatures, the courts and wherever else the battle needs to be fought.

With that "cheerful" thought, I'll crawl back into my hole for a bit.

Should effective self-defense be limited to the fit and strong?

H/T: Keep And Bear Arms

Read the article. He makes a very telling point concerning ability versus need.

The law, at least here in Texas, demands that we flee confrontation when possible. Sounds like a plan to me. OTOH, like Kurt Hofmann, I have my physical limitations. Not all of them are visible to casual observer. The body just isn't really up to hand-to-hand fighting.

Like I said, read his article & tell us what you think. Maybe we both can learn from the results.

The Sword & the Tome

H/T: America's 1st Freedom, February 2009, p. 28 by Dave Kopel

Did you read this article? Maybe you ought to. Go get a copy of the NRA's (yeah, that's right, the National Rifle Association!) America's 1st Freedom magazine and study up.

Here's a fer instance:

With a new presidential administration that is hostile to private firearm ownership now in office, we'll likely be hearing a renewed torrent of anti-gun rhetoric coming from all directions. As we prepare for these challenges and arguments, it's a good time to recall some important quotes that provide a long-term perspective.

And another:

The Talmud and Cicero concurred that self-defense is not just an option-it is a moral obligation.

Any more questions? Get your hands on a copy and read the whole thing for yourself. It's worth it.

Soldier doubts eligibility, defies president's orders

H/T: WorldNetDaily

The title link, and this one, highlight fundamental issues facing our newly elected "president."

Is he or isn't he?

He certainly hasn't demonstrated much of the "openess" and "transparency" that he campaigned for. I guess "openess" and "transparency" are the schlobs in fly-over-country. You know, like you and me. It's certainly not for the Obama-messiah and his minions.

Obama "has absolutely refused to provide to the American public his original birth certificate, as well as other documents which may prove or disprove his eligibility," Easterling wrote. "In fact, he has fought every attempt made by concerned citizens in their effort to force him to do so."

I am continually astonished at both the arrogance and incompetance of this administration. The Presidency of the United States is not a job to be learned on-the-go.

Foreboding Photos - AKA "Idiots with Guns"

H/T: Xavier

The referenced blog by Xavier is kinda hard to read. It's sad, truly sad, that these people possessed guns.

Please note I didn't write that they were "allowed" to possess guns. With Liberty comes responsibility. On that note, they failed. For the male in the story, his failing is obvious. For the female "victim" her failing is just as serious though perhaps not so obvious.

For she chose to associate with an "Idiot with a Gun".

My heart goes out to the surviving family. Perhaps they failed these two individuals. Perhaps these two were not taught the Rules of the Gun - or the Rules of Life - PERIOD. Perhaps these two just didn't "get the memo", were out to lunch or skipped that class. Nevertheless, lives are changed forever by irresponsibility.

We'll re-visit the Rules of the Gun right now (courtesy of Xavier).

The Four Rules

1. All firearms are always loaded
2. Never let the muzzle of a firearm point at anything you are not willing to destroy
3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot
4. Be sure of your target and what lies beyond it

Don't just read them, memorize them! Follow the links above and learn.

Be safe, ya'll!

GoDaddy, go! Christians exit over Super Bowl ad

During a good portion of the month of February, I spent my "spare" time migrating our web site, The Wearable Gospel!, from one hosting company to another.

GoDaddy to Our Internet.

Here's WHY:

GoDaddy, go! Christians exit over Super Bowl ad

'I know they're trying to make sales, ...that kind of content is not going to fly'

GoDaddy's famously risque Super Bowl ads always pull lots of eyeballs, but the company's latest spots may have resulted in a little too much attention of the wrong kind.

Entrepreneur Brian Harrell, who manages hosting services for dozens of Christian churches and faith-based organizations and uses GoDaddy to host over 160 domains, says he's pulled several of his clients off of GoDaddy's servers after receiving numerous complaints about the company's racy ads that aired during Sunday's game.

"I know they're trying to make sales, but that kind of content is not going to fly in the Christian community," he says.

During Sunday's Super Bowl telecast, the domain registrar and hosting company ran two sexually suggestive ads featuring auto racer Danica Patrick -- one featuring Patrick and a few busty models tossing around double-entendres about their breast size, and another featuring Patrick stripping down and stepping into a shower.

In the hours after the game ended, Harrell says he began receiving complaints from his Christian clients, who demanded their hosting and e-mail services be moved to a different provider.

And the calls kept coming. By Tuesday, Harrell says he has orders to move 20 of his clients' domains off of GoDaddy's hosting service and another 40 off of its web-based e-mail service. He anticipates more calls as word spreads across the Christian community.

GoDaddy has developed a great deal of notoriety for its Super Bowl advertising. The company has ads rejected by broadcasters multiple times for being too racy, and even had one of its ads pulled mid-game before it aired. The company also makes non-sexually suggestive ads for NASCAR and other televised sports with larger Christian fanbases.

In addition to working with churches and faith-based organizations, Harrell runs a sales portal for the wedding and event planning industry at He has been a GoDaddy customer for almost ten years, so he's more than familiar with the company's sexually charged ads. But after seeing Danicka Patrick showering and nearly showing off her bare breasts, he decided to put his foot down.

"They have to be careful. I think they definitely crossed the line in this case," he says.

Harrell also sent a strongly-worded e-mail to the company, which he provided to

We have clients leaving GoDaddy e-mail and servers due to your non-Christian advertising and exploitation of females in your advertising.

We currently have over 160 domains with you.

Please re-think how your morals and values are looking to the public. It seems that the GoDaddy President seems like a bit of a sex addict or pervert.

I'm assuming you will just respond in "corporate speak" that "I'm sorry you feel that way. It was not our intention to offend (translation to blah blah blah) and we will take your comments under advisement (meaning we will delete your email shortly as we really don't give a crap about morals and Christians, only sales, no really, we don't give a crap.)

I have been in marketing for over 25 years and you really should PRINT this and bring this to your management meeting and read it word-for-word (what really will happen? You will bring it up at the meeting maybe, and everyone will laugh like crazy but inside they know this is a disease that will keep eating at the foundation of GoDaddy until someday it does some serious damage - or when you ALL have to be judged for your sins when you die)

Sincerely,Brian Harrell

The company responded with a boilerplate letter, which reads in part:

Although we wish your opinion of our commercials was a favorable one, please know your feedback is highly valued. At, we strongly believe that the freedom to express one's opinions is one of the defining factors that makes the United States a great nation.

When Harrell contacted us our first thought was, Christians are using for hosting? Haven't they seen the ads?

Harrell, who is a Christian himself, says he's no stranger to the ads or to the suggestive nature of advertising in general. But the ads are costing him business, and he feels it's time the company owns up to what he calls its "immoral and irresponsible" public image.

But what impact will it make on the world's largest registrar of domains? GoDaddy creates its ads in-house, and it does so on the cheap. The spots are incredibly lucrative. According to The Arizona Republic, the Scotsdale, Arizona company's hometown paper, GoDaddy's ads last Sunday resulted in a flood of new customers -- a 110 percent increase over the number of orders it received after the 2008 Super Bowl.

The ads were hugely popular. TiVo says GoDaddy's "Enchanced" ad (the one showing women joking about their breast size) was the game's most-viewed spot. The Associated Press speculates it's because the ad aired during the final moments of the tense game, but it's also the fourth-most-watched ad at's Super Bowl ads microsite. GoDaddy's other ad, featuring Patrick in the shower, ranked at #15 according to Hulu. The "Shower" spot ran during the game's first half.

Even though GoDaddy may think he's small potatoes, Harrell is going to continue his campaign.

He plans to expand his business this year by adding between 1,000 and 2,000 churches to his online directory, and he's not about to recommend GoDaddy's services to any of them.

"(GoDaddy is) going to lose customers like us and every other church we come in contact with," he says.Like the man said: "(GoDaddy is) going to lose customers like us and every other church we come in contact with". GoDaddy has lost our business, too. We have recommended to our clients that they, too, move their accounts to somewhere else.

We're tired of the emarassment
