A year ago today, I started this blog as a means of expressing myself and sharing with friends and yet-to-be friends.

I said in my first post:

As a "mature" W.A.S.P. I have held my numerous opinions to myself over the years. Perhaps now is the time to express a few. To let "let the cat out of the bag" as they say!

"I have seen the future . . . "

I remember reading a prophecy science fiction story a loo-oong time ago where the population's intelligence had decreased gradually. The "elite", to keep the masses happy, had "engineered" things to look like technology was rapidly improving lives while maintaining "safe" limits. An example was the re-shaping of road-side billboards to convince the traveling populace that they were truly going "150 mph" while never exceeding a safe, and true, 50 mph.

Billy Ockham has found a wonderful spoof of what BHO and crew desire for US (both the U.S.A. and you and I).

I have seen the future and I really want to hide in my safe place.

Rural Mexican villages dig moats to repel gangsters

Here is a great video put together and posted on YouTube called 'We the People stimulus package' and it is a commentary on the issues of today. However, it's written and delivered as if it were founding father Thomas Paine’s reaction to the events of today.

Watch it all. You don't have to fully agree with "Thomas Paine". I do.

In fact, I fully agree with "Mr. Paine." Including the universal service component. Yesterday I posted in opposition to Obama's version of compulsory service. Go back and read it if you need a refresher. Brown Shirts and Hitler Youth come to my mind when I read his proposals.

Universal service adapted to the physical capabilities of every young adult should be instituted here. If we had such in the late '60s when I left high school, I certainly would not have qualified for military service. Something else would have been required and do-able. Certain civil service would have worked in my case. As it was, I went to college for a while and then on to technical school where I learned my profession.

BTW, I was born with visible and moderate (INMNSHO) physical deformities that prevented inclusion in the military. Now, as I age, it's the invisible "disabilities" that really get to me! hehe

While we're at it, I support UNIVERSAL service (military or civil) to this country by all young adults. No exceptions other than physical or mental inability. In my mind, the penalty for dodging (ducking, not disability!) would be loss of the vote. You serve, you vote. You choose to not serve, you choose to not have a say in the way this city, county, state, country is run. Non-serving individuals retain all other rights of citizenship. They just can not have a say in government. Or work in the government in any capacity. THAT would be reserved for those that served.

What's the bottom line? Well, certain politicians thrive in times of trouble; and if they don't see enough trouble, they're always happy to add some more. They always practice the same kind of demagogy. They always promise radical change. And they often bring the opposite.


Nothing ever changes except the color of the flags and the uniforms. And it's always the militant idealists, the obsessional clerks and scribblers, who seize the moment to raise yet another Hero of Change and Hope to the peak of power. Because, you see, Adolf Hitler was not the exception. In the century of Mao Zedong and Pol Pot, of Lenin and Stalin, of Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez, of Robert Mugabe and Saddam Hussein, of Ahmadinejad and Khomeini, of genocidal little tyrants in the Sudan and Rwanda, Hitler was by no means the exception.

Yes, Hitler was brought down by the blood of millions of American and Allied servicemen (and women!). Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, etc. added their millions to the pile of Hitler's corpses. I keep reading estimates of 100 million or so attributed to those demons of power.

How many more will American socialism contribute?

Obama told us everything we wanted to hear except the truth. Those that looked at his actions versus his words discerned something amiss.

" . . . gunsmithing will become a rocket growth career, just like auto repairs skyrocket when new car sales slump!"

Gunsmithing, cottage-industry firearm and propellant manufacturing and other"illegal" activities will blossom. After all, will the government "secure" all of the laid off former arms industry employees and un-related tool and die makers and . . . . just to secure the government's safety/hold on the population?

I really don't know. We know that kind of stunt has been tried before. Within the memory of some still living. Yes, I'm thinking of the Nazis, Fascists, Communists (Soviet and Chinese), . . . . . . .

'Gun problem' common sense

Mark Lansky in a Guest Editorial to the of Ft. Wayne, IN has some truly un-common sense concerning the "gun control" issues.

. . . in Indiana, the right to carry a concealed firearm has generated much less violent crime than in Washington, D.C. (per FBI statistics), where Helmke now has finally found his niche. Does it seem strange the Brady Campaign gives higher ratings to Washington, D.C., than to Indiana?


Brady's emphasis seems to focus on limiting the common man's (or woman's) rights under the federal Constitution's Second Amendment guarantees


There have been almost no crimes reported involving the use of fully automatic weapons, although Helmke and the media seem happy to have the public confused between a machine gun and a semi-automatic firearm to promote a general “anti-guns of all kinds” agenda.

Of course, I'm pickin' and choosin' my quotes. Just like the Brady Campaign.

Stand Your Ground

WSRA sometimes goes beyond my personal comfort limits. OTOH, he often says things that I think need mentioning even if they are uncomfortable.

In this post, he quotes from a correspondent:

In my days in hostage rescue back when the good guys didn't wear masks or presume civilians were the enemy, SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) dictated that once you had a suspect fixed into position, you turned up the heat by removing his/her access to amenities such as . . .

All the while this was going on, the "dynamic entry team" would be inching their way into position covered by "designated selected marksmen". The theory was that the hostage taker would be so preoccupied with his/her physical discomfort that they'd be distracted enough to not notice their impending capture or doom . . .

The same tactic is being employed against all gun owners and the American population in general. We are being put into a more and more uncomfortable and incrementally miserable position . . .


No ammo. No components. No weapons.

One may well ask: "Gene, do you really want to see armed insurrection in this country?" My answer must always be "NO!"

OTOH, I am coming to the opinion that we may not have that option of saying "No" to armed insurrection. Read the last line I quoted, above.

"No ammo. No components. No weapons." No liberty.

Just remember, the historical sign of slavery has been the dis-armament of the slaves. The massa' don't trust no slave!

The commercial republic

David Brooks in the International Herald Tribune presents a very interesting, and encouraging, thought concerning our economic situation today contrasted with our political "elite".

. . . popular figures have always emerged to champion the American gospel of success, encouraging middle-class people to strive, risk and make money.


This is an administration that has many lawyers and academics but almost no businesspeople in it, let alone self-made entrepreneurs. The president speaks passionately about education and health care reform, but he is strangely aloof from the banking crisis and displays no passion when speaking about commercial drive and success.

Is a Cell Phone Your Only Phone?

Fox carried this interesting, to me, story concerning the number of households that do not have a wired telephone, a "land line", but rely on cell phones for all of their voice communications.

The reason I'm interested in this item is: That's exactly what we did this last year. I haven't missed my land line, yet.

Then, Keep And Bear Arms carried an article about "ring no answer" at 911.

If a call to 911 were a "hang-up", it might actually, and legitimately, take a "while" for a response. A hang-up call is one where 911 is called and is either disconnected immediately or does not, or can not, communicate with the dispatcher. General policy is to dispatch a police unit when one becomes available.

SWMBO! and were certainly aware of the 911 problem/feature when we converted to cell-only. I've been employed in and around the land line industry for more than 30 years and was made aware of the cell phone disadvantage long before there were cell phones. We both continue to operate amateur radio mobile installations. We used to utilize them to request emergency services before the 911 system was implemented in our area. In other words, if you couldn't communicate your location and need, accurately, you were "toast".

With any mobile communications, there is no embedded technology that firmly ties your location in space to your phone number. Certainly GPS and triangulation can help if, and when, available.

In a wide spread emergency, disaster/whatever, your only reliable resource is you. You and you alone are responsible for getting yourself out of trouble. It may require summoning outside aid. Be prepared to assist as much as possible. Be alert.

Guns On the Plane?

A very short time ago I wrote about a new (to me) organization called US Concealed Carry Association. I registered with them for their free email newsletter. It may have just paid off.

Yesterday they sent this:

We can't find any independent poll in which the public is demanding that pilots disarm. Why does this move make sense?

Yes indeed. Why, and under what circumstances, could this make sense? Is it because hijackers have given up on aircraft? Is it because the hijackers are looking elsewhere to do their evil?

Or is it because Dear Leader Obama and his minions have determined that the world is so safe for American Socialists that we no longer need to defend our aircraft?

Personally, I believe the root cause is the pack of useful idiots in Washington are in lock step, marching to a Socialist America. It may be a national socialist (Nazi) regime or more communistic as time goes by, but it is starting out socialist.

"[M]ust reading for anyone still in TEC"

I thought you might find it interesting reading concerning the fiasco we observe within the Anglican family, particularly the TEo and its orthodox siblings.

Far from being “inclusive,” the ruling group is intent on seeing that those who actively oppose it or attempt to leave are promptly and severely dealt with.

In other words, if you don't like it here, just "Shut Up and Sit Down!"

A huge change now taking place in our church is the de facto elevation of the Presiding Bishop to the position of Archbishop and Metropolitan; i.e. the direct boss of our diocesan bishops and the key person in determining the course of the national church.


As the time of General Convention 2009 draws near, the church is hemorrhaging both money and members. While most dioceses are cutting programs and staff, the Presiding Bishop has just augmented her legal staff with a personal litigation attorney. Four Dioceses have left TEC to affiliate temporarily with other Anglican Provinces and the church is losing 1,000 members a week.


There have been more bishops and clergy deposed, or involuntarily removed from the ranks of the Church, in the two-and-a-half years of her term than at any other time in its four-hundred-year history.

What Can You Do?

What can individual parishioners do? Here are some practical suggestions:
1. Find out where your money is going. . . .
2. Give no more money for lawsuits. . . . .
3. Become involved at the local level. . . .
4. Do not vote for convention deputies who want to see the lawsuits continue. . . . .
5. Become involved yourself . . .

Finally, spread the word! Get this information into the hands of as many of your fellow parishioners as possible. There are many links in this article to useful information.

Why I Hate "Hate-Crimes" Legislation

First of all, to those of us that are "challenged" by non-English languages (including myself), the "Old Spanish Proverb" means something like "Under my cape I kill the king" according to my Google search. In other words, look over "there" while I stick it to you over here!

I guess Keyes is going to have to be prosecuted for using the word "hate" so many times in his article. ;>) He is absolutely correct in his "hate" of so-called hate crime legislation. All it does is create special classes of victims, removing the whole concept of equal treatment under the law.

Once again children, murder, battery, assault, rape, etc. are already illegal. If our current laws are ineffective against criminal behavior, what makes us think writing more useless words are going to work?

In one respect, hate crimes legislation defies the age-old logic of punishment. Webster's defines hate as "intense hostility and aversion usually deriving from fear, anger, or sense of injury." In the past, people generally regarded intense passion as a mitigating factor in the commission of a crime, though usually not sufficient simply to exonerate the person responsible.


Ironically, their penchant for hate crimes legislation seems intent on revisiting the mentality of the medieval statutes that enabled the Inquisition- laws that insisted on states of mind that satisfied a standard of purity in the understanding and observance of sacred ideas, people and things. Much like the special penalties imposed by some religions for mistreatment of sacred groups of people or animals, the proponents of "hate crimes" legislation deal in special classes of people against whom criminal acts are somehow more grievous and offensive.


If someone has bad judgment enough to hate me, I say let them do so, so long as it never produces an action otherwise against the law. When and if it does, they should be subject to the same punishment that I or anyone else would suffer for the same act, with nothing added or taken away because of their putative beliefs or feelings about me.

Andrew Carey has created a new dictionary to assist in the ongoing "dialogue" that the liberals demand of the conservatives. In his case, it's between the liberal TEo ad their kind and the orthodox within the Anglican Communion.

He starts out with the new "definitions" (are they daffy-nitions?) of authorize, baptism, listening and so on. Slippery definitions cast in silly putty.

Until they need to be re-defined to suit a "new reality".

Read it all. It's kinda like a Rosetta Stone for revisionist/re-appraiser Anglicanism.

His examples of re-defining words includes this:

Now we have the most egregious example of all in the declaration by the Canadian diocese of Ottawa that it will allow a parish to perform same-sex blessings in order to ‘discern’ the way forward. Needless to say, it’s an odd kind of ‘discernment’ to do something you are not agreed upon in order to reach agreement. It seems like a recipe for division and conflict.

Yep, a recipe all right. The intended product may be submission to the liberal socialist thought-line but the un-intended consequences may be severe for all.

The New TEo "Seal"

It's rich reading if you appreciate how Bp. Iker has treated the parishes that wish to remain with the TEo. As Wells is quoted as saying in SF:

Whether the DioFW will prevail is yet to be seen. However, +Iker and crew have commandeered the high ground. +Iker has allowed four parishes, desiring to remain with the TEo, to keep their property, etc. since there were no legal entanglements.

How come TEo can't do the same?

House Resolution 875, or the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009, was introduced by Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., in February. DeLauro's husband, Stanley Greenburg, works for Monsanto – the world's leading producer of herbicides and genetically engineered seed.


"Every time we pass a rule or a law or a regulation to make the world a better place, it seems like what we do is subsidize production offshore," he said. "We tell farmers they can no longer drive diesel tractors because they make bad smoke. Well, essentially what we're doing is giving China a subsidy to grow our crops for us, or Mexico or anyone else."

Obama’s Gun Ban List Is Out?

Yesterday's Sign of a Domestic Terrorist post presaged today's. Today's news just confirms the deep chill running down my spine.

First, we have "Obama's Gun Ban List". Now, I followed the YouTube link and viewed Lou Dobbs, etc., discussing the general situation that we all know. I DID NOT FIND a link to any firearm list as published in InfoWars. I also did not find a source for Korwin's list other than the failed 2007 bill by Rep. McCarthy - D/NY. That doesn't eliminate sources other than the 'net and it wasn't an exhaustive search, either. OTOH, a quick look at GOA and NRA sites didn't show anything.

Is Korwin hyper-inflating? I really don't know. The truth will out, soon enough. What does seem to be cast in setting concrete is this: The gun-controllers are smelling blood. My question is: Who's blood will be spilt?

Do look closely at McCarthy's list. How many death-dealing weapons do you own? Do you really think registration will not lead to confiscation?

If anyone still thinks there's plenty of time to get ready, they're behind the eight ball. Check out the strictures on reloading materials (courtesy of KABA), the European response to Germany's strict, and failed, gun laws. As Europe goes, so goes the US.

Isn't that what the first American Revolution was all about? Getting rid of European meddling in American affairs? Why do we seek to emulate their failures?

Sign of a Domestic Terrorist?

I find it strange that our benign government officials, at any level, should find an historic flag such as the Gadsden Flag an irritant.

Of course, during the last Democratic Kingdom of Bill I, even Texas DPS Troopers were supposedly told to look out for NRA bumper stickers. They might signify a domestic terrorist.

Like, a domestic terrorist is going to advertise?

Let's discuss this a minute. OK?

According to that great unbiased source of historical knowledge, Wickipedia:

The Gadsden flag is a historical American flag with a yellow field depicting a rattlesnake coiled and ready to strike. Positioned below the snake is the legend "DONT TREAD ON ME" [sic]. The flag was designed by and is named after American general and statesman Christopher Gadsden.

Christopher Gadsden's design dates from 1775. Our government fears something 234 years old?

I guess so. Because it seems like they fear our Constitution at least as much in the year of its 222nd anniversary.

What is it about the flag and Constitution for them to fear? Could it something like:

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, ensure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America. (Emphasis added - Gene)

Gadsden's flag succinctly expresses my sentiments. Leave me alone. Do not micro-manage my life and I will not micro-manage yours.

Can't we all just get along? Evidently not.

Perhaps we need to re-establish this nation.

Most of these weapons are being smuggled from Central American countries or by sea, eluding U.S. and Mexican monitors who are focused on the smuggling of semiauto- matic and conventional weapons purchased from dealers in the U.S. border states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California.

Mexico already strictly limits civilian possession of firearms. So how come the cartels have MILITARY grade armament? It's illegal! Don't the cartels know they're breakin' the law?

Yes, Virginia, they do know they're breaking the law. That's why their activities are designated as criminal actions. It's what they do.

  1. Believing the gun to be unloaded, Odom placed it against the back of Aubrecht's head and pulled the trigger, investigators said.
  2. She died at the scene.
  3. Investigators found evidence of drug and alcohol use during a search of the home, but did not say whether they believe it played a part in the shooting.
  4. “There were no arguments and no fights prior to the incident,” said homicide Sgt. R.D. Chandler.
  5. Odom was arrested and charged with manslaughter. He remains in the Harris County Jail with bail set at $30,000.

Unlike the chronically gun-illiterate Chronicle, I would not title this article as " . . . accidentally shot . . . ". It was at best negligent. Go back and read Rule #1 if you don't agree. Oh, and if that doesn't convince you, try Rules #2 and #3.

Frankly, I'd push for murder. Odom better hope for the needle (lethal injection is the current method of choice in Texas) or life in prison without hope of parol. Her parents just might want to have a nice "chat" with him. They may not act as quickly as Odom did.

Also, I read this morning that a major newspaper is now reporting that much of Mexico's gun problem is not coming from their northern border. Hmmmmmm?! More unadulterated BS!

Atrocities and Heroism

Most of us are all too aware of the atrocities over in Alabama and near Stuttgart, Germany.

Compared to the US, Germany has pretty strict gun laws. Permits are granted to only those over 18. The German shooter was 17. Gun control worked again.

The guy in Alabama apparently was "OK". Something wasn't right, obviously.

However, as the Chron reports, there was at least one victim that that refused to be a victim.

Bruce Maloy, the town comedian/joker, took action when the shooter, Michael McLendon, came to his notice.

Mr. Maloy used what he had available, an improvised weapon. He used vehicle to attempt to interrupt McLendon's criminal spree. For that Mr. Maloy has earned the town's gratitude and a funeral.

Some times a man has just got to do what a man has to do.

Pray for Maloy's family and friends and the survivors of the other deceased.

Pray for McLendon's family and friends. They too have to grieve today.

"Back story" - The Episcopal Diocese of Northern Michigan has presented one candidate for election to the bishopric. OK. The gentleman is an avowed and openly practicing Buddhist in addition to being an ordained Episcopal priest. Not so OK.

TEo has been permitting, nay, encouraging "innovations" in theology for the last four decades or so. They've had Trinity deniers, spiritualists, Muslims, worshipers of the "divine feminine" for lay leaders, priests and bishops.

Certainly not all, or perhaps most, Episcopalians are heretics. Most certainly a significant vocal portion of their leadership IS. Starting with their Presiding Bishop. These pisskie laity, priests and bishops have not been "defenders" of the faith of Jesus Christ. No wonder their congregations are steadily shrinking as the renounce all that is Christ. No wonder the number of Anglican churches in America is growing while the Episcopal brand is dying.

In my mind, there is a wee conflict here. If Northern Michigan wants this guy, let them have him. They wanted him, they get him. OTOH, as a former pisskie, I would not want this guy in the diocese next door or anywhere in my church.

The latter attitude is what I think the DioSC is telling the national organization.

The first item mentioned, the one from Stand Firm, I believe adds "muscle" to the second. DioSC pre-dates the formation of the Episcopal organization in this country. Since they voluntarily joined the organization, so many years ago, they can voluntarily leave it!

Seems like someone finally woke up at Homeland Security and learned a lesson from the Israelis. They've been facing terrorists for over 60 years. They've been through the school massacre's and bus massacres and . . . ever since they opened their country's doors for business in May of '48.

Why have we taken so long?

School buses can be vulnerable to a potential attacker, but are often overlooked in a school district's security plan.

And homes, churches, offices, playgrounds, markets/stores, shopping centers, and . . .

Be alert. If you can legally carry a handgun in your jurisdiction:
  • GET one
  • LEARN how to use it safely
  • And then CARRY it everywhere you can legally. Home, church, shopping, wherever your jurisdiction "permits" you to carry it. Period.

It's a really busy news morning today. There is just so much that I want to snark on and so little time. Be a slow typist doesn't help at all. ;>)

I do not ususally promote a business operation here, unless it's my own! :>) But today I'll make a small exception.

A few days ago I signed up for a free newsletter, knowing that the sales emails to sign up for paid "membership" were sure to come. USCCA seems to be offering a reasonable, to my way of thinking, product for free via email. Yep, I know, I have to put up with their attempts to sell me their stuff but it's OK.

It may work out long term. I don't know. I do suggest you give them a look-see and try it out for your self.

BTW, this is unsolicited and I have no financial, or other, interest in USCCA or their people. I am just a new name on their email list. Nada more.

Gun Control Groups Use Mexico to Call for New Laws

Mexico has a problem with drugs and violence. So do we. Now, someone(s) want the U.S. to solve Mexico's problem. However, we haven't seen much in the way of assistance from them.

Mexico continues to encourage its citizens to free-load off the gringos north of their border. Mexico continues to serve as a conduit for harmful, and illegal, drugs into this country. A large proportion of their politicians, military and police seem to be on the "take".

And supposedly their problems are exacerbated by our guns? Yep, I'm quite confident guns acquired in this country make their way into Mexico. On the other hand, the reverse has been true for a long time.

BTW, did you know that is very difficult for the ordinary Mexican citizen to obtain a handgun? Did you know they are heavily restricted as to what types of weapons they are allowed? No wonder they steal/buy from us? They're oppressed by their own government!

Hmmmm. Let's see. If we can't control ingress at our borders, how are we going to control EGRESS?

Oh I know, we'll just ban, and then confiscate, all those eevi-iillll nasty ol' black guns that we have up here and save Mexico from itself! Nowt, I know that another part of this short article says Mr. Diaz advocates using existing laws to restrict the trade. For that, I heartily agree with him.


Expert Tom Diaz says that imports of certain semiautomatic rifles were regulated under the first Bush and Clinton administrations. But he told a House panel Wednesday the import rules were relaxed under the most recent Bush administration.

The quote above may not properly represent what Mr. Diaz actually said. Having made that clear, please note:

  • The use of the term "semi-automatic" rifles. Semi-autos are NOT what is desired by the cartels. They want, and have, fully- automatic weapons. In the US, full-auto weapons are heavily taxed for civilian possession. They are available to military and police users.
  • The phrase "were regulated under the first Bush and Clinton" is not quite accurate as it stands. Clinton, the male, pushed for and got the so-called Assault Weapons Ban of '94. In that, the Congress in collusion with the executive branch severely restricted semi-automatic weapons that possessed cosmetic similarities to certain full-auto weapons. This was a case of: "If it looks like a full-auto, it must be as dangerous and eevi-iillll." Not. Magazine capacity was restricted to 10 rounds or less. All that did was drive up the prices of pre-AWB magazines! Idiocy such as this made life slightly more miserable for the law-abiding. I don't think the criminal element ever noticed the change.
  • Now the phrase "the import rules were relaxed under the most recent Bush administration" suggests that GW Bush relaxed those rules. Tain't so! Congress did not renew the '94 AWB bill which automatically expired in '04. Bush didn't have a bill to sign into law. So, it's Bush's fault? Right?!
  • I suppose Mr. Diaz was under oath to tell the truth, and nothing but the truth when these statements were made. For his sake, I hope the Associated Press didn't fudge something up to suit their agenda. OTOH, I don't trust most of the House of Representative, or the Senate for that matter, to care much about the truth and oaths to tell it.

So, I ask you: Is it US military and police weapons that are getting to Mexican drug suppliers? Or, is it Mexican military and police weapons getting to Mexican drug suppliers?

Enquiring minds really would like to know.

Lies, Liars & More Damned Lies

KABA's "teaser", quoted below in it's entirety, showcases the Brady Campaigns willing misuse of the truth and facts to serve its own socialist dis-armament purposes.

Alabama killer Michael McLendon fired more than 200 rounds(1) from his military-style semiautomatic assault weapons(2). He lived in a state that has pathetically weak guns (sic) laws: In the Brady Campaign’s recent state scorecards, Alabama earned a score of 15 out of 100(3). Assault weapons were banned(4) under federal law until four years(5) ago.

Factual "errors" in the above paragraph? Let me count them:

  1. " . . . 200 rounds . . "
    I have not been able to confirm this number. Where did they get it from?
  2. " . . . pathetically weak guns (sic) laws . . . "
    Opinion! What place does VPC's, so-called, opinions have in a "fact" article or "news" release?
  3. " . . . score of 15 out of 100 . . . "
    Is this good? Since VPC is using it, we must suppose it is Eeevi-illll!
  4. "Assault weapons were banned . . . "
    No Virginia, assault weapons were not banned by the 1994 "Assault Weapons" bill. That name is simply part of the smoke-and-mirror tactics the gun-banning elite want to pull over our eyes! The '94 AWB banned weapons that LOOKED LIKE military arms or had some shared characteristics - such as pistol grips or "high" capacity magazines. The so-called "assault weapon" law was BS then and it still is BS !!
  5. " . . . banned under federal law until four years ago."
    The '94 AWB was allowed to sunset, expire, die a dis-graceful death because Congress refused to renew it. Congress did not present a bill to Bush for him to sign. End of the '94 AWB. Studies conducted before the '04 expiration demonstrated that the bill had not accomplished any lessening of crime or related mayhem in the ten years it was active. Why would that be? Perhaps, just perhaps, the AWB accomplished exactly nothing beyond making the gun-grabbers "feel good." It was an awfully expensive "feeling" for the nation.
BTW, fully automatic assault weapons, the real things, are not banned from citizen possession. Surprised? You shouldn't be. They've been heavily taxed and restricted since the 1930s. They are NOT banned.

The VPC article goes on with this gem of clarity:

“This man needed the firepower of assault weapons to execute his plan of mass carnage. Alabama, and our nation, must take action to make it harder for dangerous people to get dangerous weapons,” said PaulHelmke (sic), President of the Brady Campaign.

Mr. Helmke lies once again. Obviously McLendon didn't need "assault" weapons. Doesn't anybody else remember the Japanese school attack that injured quite a few? The guy used a knife!

Unless we resist the societal trend to equate knives, and the carry of pocketknives, with thuggery and criminal behavior, we will lose a critical component of what makes us a technologically advanced, fundamentally tool-using species. In an increasingly urban society forever more distant from the mechanics of daily life, it may not seem like such a big deal to forego the carry of a pocketknife. That is, it won't seem like you're missing a critical piece of personal technology – until you watch an elderly woman slowly strangle to death in front of you, as you pluck hopelessly at her scarf like a helpless, shaven primate.

"(L)ike a helpless, shaven primate." That's all we are without tools. God gave us brains and free will. In secular terms, it's what we DO with those instruments that sets us apart from the rest of the great apes.

Where Is The Conservative Leadership We Need?

BTW, before you raise your hand, remember the conservatives are almost as bad as the liberals when it comes to shooting their own. It's called "not-so-friendly fire". Wear your body armor!

The truth is that conservatives generally don't have a single leader. They are united by their devotion to the rights of individual citizens, their adherence to traditional morality and the principles of republican government, and their opposition to socialistic meddling with individual freedom. But within that framework of belief, they tolerate and even encourage a diversity of views about specific issues and approaches.

Our strength is our weakness. What can we do to turn that around?

The Europeans aren't listening to our experience any more than we listen to their.

They've practically banned all guns from the UK and forced their own Olympic shooting team to go onto the Continent to practice. Now, the UK is starting on an "assault knife ban" to combat their rising knife crime. And this article shows how the rest of the socialist Europeans are banning things that only peripherally contributed to the blood bath in Germany.

Like here, it is already a crime to murder in all of the "civilized" world. I quote that because humanity is never far from barbarity and laws only restrain the good-intentioned. The law does not restrain the law breaker.

TX: Voter ID battle heads to Senate

Texas may get this one right. There's still hope.

As I understand it, voting is:

  1. The responsibility of a Citizen. Too many of us skip this part as it is.
  2. A constitutional right of a Citizen.
  3. NOT an entitlement derived from mere presence in a geographical region or area.

In other words, CITIZENS, and Citizens only, should vote. If you are not a Citizen then you have two responsibilities:

  1. Correct your "disability" if you choose and
  2. Vote your conscience if and when you become eligible to vote.

According to the Chron:

Texas allows the state’s 13.5 million registered voters to cast ballots by either presenting a registration card or a driver’s license to poll workers. The proposed law would require voters to present specified photo identification or other documents* to prove their identity before voting and it would not apply to people who mail in early votes.

OK, we're already required to present some kind of proof that we have the right to vote when we enter the polling place. Anybody complaining, yet?

Now, our legislators want us to prove, by "photo identification or other documentation", who we are is who we say we are? Is there a real problem with this?

Sure, I can come up with my own scenarios where someone, temporarily homeless due to house fire, etc., is denied the vote. OK. Stuff happens. OTOH, I suspect most of the complaints may come from those who never bothered to obtain the "photo identification or other documentation" required under this proposal. Perhaps an "off-grid" type. A hermit or an anarchist? Who knows. If they choose to not obey a just law, the forfeit their right to complain or vote.

Will this law be abused? Certainly! People, by nature, skirt/bend/break laws. God's Law. Man's Law. Their Own Law. It just doesn't matter. Will this law be "strengthened" into a abuse of justice? Possibly. Thomas Jefferson told us: "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance." That fact of freedom will never change.

What provides for the greater good of the community? A just law working to lessen voting fraud and secure the blessings of good government is needed. If we can keep it.

What the Texas bill would require for voting in person:
• Photo ID: State or federal photo identification, including a valid driver’s license; military identification; passport; concealed handgun license**.

Obama lied to gun owners; Attorney General Holder a 'gun grabber'

Those of us "gunnies" that told you BHO couldn't be trusted are at again. Of course, we now have his actions to counter act his words.

"They" called us "paranoid" and accused us of "clinging" to our guns and religion. What part of "From our cold dead hands" do they not understand?

Those of us that are Christian will cling to the Cross of Jesus. The rest of us will cling to our weapons, too.

CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, reacting to Thursday's remarks by Obama's Attorney General Eric Holder that the president will seek to reinstate the ban on semi-automatic firearms, said Obama "knew he was lying to the nation because his own web site touted his plan to revive the gun ban and make it permanent."


"While Holder had no problem having many Americans murdered by federal law enforcement, his heart bleeds for terrorists and enemies who have been captured on the battlefield," said Baker.

"The only thing he learned from the brutality in Waco is that it would have been easier if the occupants of that compound were disarmed prior to the military-style operation," he added. (Emphasis added - Gene)
