Lies, Liars & More Damned Lies

H/T: Keep And Bear Arms

KABA's "teaser", quoted below in it's entirety, showcases the Brady Campaigns willing misuse of the truth and facts to serve its own socialist dis-armament purposes.

Alabama killer Michael McLendon fired more than 200 rounds(1) from his military-style semiautomatic assault weapons(2). He lived in a state that has pathetically weak guns (sic) laws: In the Brady Campaign’s recent state scorecards, Alabama earned a score of 15 out of 100(3). Assault weapons were banned(4) under federal law until four years(5) ago.

Factual "errors" in the above paragraph? Let me count them:

  1. " . . . 200 rounds . . "
I have not been able to confirm this number. Where did they get it from?
  2. " . . . pathetically weak guns (sic) laws . . . "
Opinion! What place does VPC's, so-called, opinions have in a "fact" article or "news" release?
  3. " . . . score of 15 out of 100 . . . "
Is this good? Since VPC is using it, we must suppose it is Eeevi-illll!
  4. "Assault weapons were banned . . . "
No Virginia, assault weapons were not banned by the 1994 "Assault Weapons" bill. That name is simply part of the smoke-and-mirror tactics the gun-banning elite want to pull over our eyes! The '94 AWB banned weapons that LOOKED LIKE military arms or had some shared characteristics - such as pistol grips or "high" capacity magazines. The so-called "assault weapon" law was BS then and it still is BS !!
  5. " . . . banned under federal law until four years ago."
The '94 AWB was allowed to sunset, expire, die a dis-graceful death because Congress refused to renew it. Congress did not present a bill to Bush for him to sign. End of the '94 AWB. Studies conducted before the '04 expiration demonstrated that the bill had not accomplished any lessening of crime or related mayhem in the ten years it was active. Why would that be? Perhaps, just perhaps, the AWB accomplished exactly nothing beyond making the gun-grabbers "feel good." It was an awfully expensive "feeling" for the nation.
BTW, fully automatic assault weapons, the real things, are not banned from citizen possession. Surprised? You shouldn't be. They've been heavily taxed and restricted since the 1930s. They are NOT banned.

The VPC article goes on with this gem of clarity:

“This man needed the firepower of assault weapons to execute his plan of mass carnage. Alabama, and our nation, must take action to make it harder for dangerous people to get dangerous weapons,” said PaulHelmke (sic), President of the Brady Campaign.

Mr. Helmke lies once again. Obviously McLendon didn't need "assault" weapons. Doesn't anybody else remember the Japanese school attack that injured quite a few? The guy used a knife!

Gentle reader, please remember these words from a Founding Father:

"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

[Note: This sentence was often quoted in the Revolutionary period. It occurs as early as November, 1755, in an answer by the Assembly of Pennsylvania to the Governor, and forms the motto of Franklin's "Historical Review," 1759, appearing also in the body of the work. — Frothingham: Rise of the Republic of the United States, p. 413. ]
