Voting As A "Civic Duty"? Maybe NOT!

AT's Selwyn Duke has another take on our "civic duty" that complements a previous post.

How much to YOU, and I, myself, know about our potential leader as they vie for our votes?

*MY* current excuse is we "just moved" to our new residence.  That that action occurred twelve months ago is irrelevant!  Right?!  ;>) 

They'll tell us that walking into a polling place and pulling a lever is our civic duty, but this isn't true. Our civic duty is to cultivate wisdom in ourselves and become conversant with the issues; the walking and pulling part is just a natural byproduct of that.  (Emphasis added - Gene)

For me, I have poor excuses.  There.  I admitted it.  OTOH, they are all I have.!    ;>) 

What I *DO* have is the ability to do a better job.  It's not yet too late to educate myself concerning not just our major candidates, but at least the secondary layer.

Who Does He Think He's Talking To?

Our possibly illegitimate president is still trying to dazzle us with Body Secretions and snow us with his lack-of-brilliance.  Check this out:

President Obama has taken to referencing the language of the Declaration of Independence while omitting key words. Although the practice has garnered attention of late, it dates back to the beginning of his presidency.

In his inauguration speech, President Obama gave up "created," "Creator," and "Life." Is this true to our founding documents, or is it the work of a skilled rhetorician bent on the deconstruction of those documents by stealth? Is it a deliberate attempt to take the opportunity of a presidential inauguration to make major headway at deconstructing the Declaration in the minds of people, or was he just waxing eloquent, but inexactly? The recent speeches give powerful evidence that from the inauguration on, this has been deliberate and calculated.

This way, His Obamaness, gets to tell history his way, not the way it was written.

My question to you is:  Just who does he think he's talking to?  It is certainly not those of us who can still read the plain words of our fore-fathers!

Let's Require Americans to Vote -- Or Pay the Price

Check this out for "progressive" thought! KT McFarland's idea just might be the one we need to adopt to return our country to Constitutional rule - or chaos.  But wait, aren't we just about to chaos already?

Every year fewer of us vote. Good candidates don’t want to stand for office, for fear the snarling pack of dogs will tear apart their families and their good names. We elect leaders that few of us like, or agree with, or admire. We have to hold our noses when we pull the voting lever.

What if everybody had to vote on election day, or pay a fine if they didn’t?

She got *MY* attention with that last comment.  What a novel thought!

Yeah, yeah.  I know it is my duty to vote, but since when did that stop anyone from shirking their duty?

We've had manipulators paying some of us to vote for ... forever.  Let's try the other side of the coin.  Do your duty or it hurts your wallet!

Come to think of it, let's go one step further.  Let's make not-doing-your-duty a public fact.  Assess the small fine Ms. McFarland has in mind AND publish the names of those that don't pay up.  Pay the fine:  "Nobody" knows.  Don't pay the fine:  "Everybody" knows.

Random Thoughts

First, a hat tip to Stand Firm in Faith

It's amazing what a lil' illness might do for ya!

Over the last two months, have spent a few days in my favorite hospital.  It sucks to have to go there but the care and staff are superb.  At least I was able to walk in on my own two feet, unlike a previous visit! hehe

A little preoccupation with "other" things of life and a bit of focus on family and The Prince (grandson) and . . .    There goes the blogging.

I've been following the continuing political fallout of the TEo.  They continue to shoot themselves in the foot.  They only take time out to reload and switch feet.  Try this one:  “Seusscharist”.  Once I "thought" such a thing might be OK just to draw in the "seekers" that wouldn't come in for the bells and smells.  Now, I believe the holiness of the Eucharist should not be messed with.  Ai yi yi yi yi!

Then, there was this article from Stand Firm: Homosexual Couple MARRIED [Sic] In Episcopal Church.  Before anyone goes and gets their diapers in a wad, remember, the world-wide Anglican Church told the TEo to not go and do just that very thang!!  You tell me, what do you, as a parent, do with an unruly, uncooperative, unwilling-to-obey-anything-but-their-own-wants child?  I could tell you what my mother did to me, but then that might cause her body to be exhumed and charged with child abuse!  hehe


I've also been trying to stay abreast of Barry's Follies, otherwise known as His Incompetentness, the POTUS.

Furthermore, the illness issues are requiring a rethinking of some of my learned behaviors.  You know, those learned at my mother's knee.  Clean your plate.  Eat three square meals a  day.  Drink plenty of fluids.  A little flab isn't unhealthy.  Hummph!  That was easy for her to say! ;>)

Add to all this the need to increase traffic to our website, thus producing income to offset the medical bills, etc., and we get one busy man.  Or at least one not getting enough naps.  ;>)

Oh!  Did I mention the untimely death of the laptop?!  And the excruciating recovery process of recreating said laptop functions on an old WinXP desktop?  Yechh!
